Manchester airport...

Hi, first time flyer from Manchester as it's basically the other end of the country, so I need a car parking/hotel type basis for the night I return. Does anyone recommend anywhere in particular?

Go to the Manchester airport website and they’ll have a list of recommended services

Lots of the hotels let you park free when traveling or there are shuttle buses available

Pandasarecute · 28/05/2019 13:53

If you search through holiday extras this shows prices and proximity to airport

bettybyebye · 28/05/2019 13:59

What terminal are you flying from? There are lots of airport hotels that offer deals that include parking

thenightsky · 28/05/2019 19:47

We used the Marriott. It's only a 3 min drive to terminal 2

NoSauce · 28/05/2019 19:54

Raddison Blu, it’s a couple of minutes walk to terminals.

Dollygirl2008 · 29/05/2019 12:08

THanks, I looked at the Raddison Blu but it's quite pricey. I don't actually know which terminal yet as my friend has booked it. I'll get more details before booking!

Have you looked at the deals on Moneysavingexpert?

If you know which airline you're flying with, the terminals each one uses is listed on the website:

I love the meet & greet service, only used it twice as it's not my local airport but was very good. I think compared to the off airport shuttle bus type parking it was only an extra £20. It was worth it for us as we had an elderly family member and a toddler so much easier all round.
As a side note though Manchester airport in my experience is generally without fail awful.
Here's the parking link.

I would also recommend the Meet and Greet. Very easy to find and no hassle. We've used it a couple of times now.

BarbaraofSevillle · 29/05/2019 13:19

Another vote for Meet and Greet, I always book via a Moneysavingexpert link and it usually costs £40-50 for a week. Makes things so much easier especially if you have luggage as you don't have to lug it on and off transfer buses.

Maybe that combined with a cheap Travelodge type place in the area, even if 30-60 minutes away might be cheaper than an on-airport park and fly deal?

DanielSpaniel · 30/05/2019 19:38

We always use the Meet and Greet, it’s really quick and easy. But as Tweediepie says, unfortunately it’s not a great airport experience. Security can take ages so allow plenty of time to get through and at peak times it can be hard to find seating in the terminals.

lokijet · 30/05/2019 19:47

depending where you are travelling from there is a train station at the airport. If driving I stayed at Holiday inn - they have an offsite car park with shuttle to towel and airport quite a bit cheaper than Radisson ( which is great and convenient if you can afford it)

Potcallingkettle · 30/05/2019 19:49

Book fast track through security usually very cheap especially if combined with a car park deal. Premier Inn at Heald Green is perfectly adequate, also cheap and not that far away. To be honest any premier inn close by should meet the case and some offer parking options too.

ShinyButtons · 30/05/2019 19:54

Last time I flew from Manchester we stayed at the Etrop Grange, I really wouldn't recommend it. The room was terrible.

Normally we stay at the Clayton, they have a free airport shuttle and have always been good.

thenightsky · 30/05/2019 19:58

Oh God.. just remembered... We flew with Tui to the Caribbean in April and the gate was on the new extension... 25 mins walk from the main buildings! And coz its new, there were no travel-ator things installed. Loads of people were late boarding as no-one expects to take 25 mins to get to the gate!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 30/05/2019 22:14

Do not stay at the Britannia Airport Hotel! We made that mistake, once. It's cheap but truly grim.

BarbaraofSevillle · 31/05/2019 01:34

Whether you need fast track for security depends on what time you fly. I flew out of there a few weeks ago and it was mid afternoon on a weekday and there was no queue at all and I breezed through in no time.

Another time not so long ago it was 7 am on a weekday and I was in the queue for over an hour and I only made my flight because it was late boarding. It was one of those times when I got stuck in the slowest moving queue and they were pulling lots of bags including mine out for the second screening and taking an age to do it.

Guylian2019 · 31/05/2019 06:10

I've stayed at Bewleys a few times (now called Claytons). Simple, cheap hotel. They'll take you to and from airport. It's only a couple of minutes away so ideal location.

ivykaty44 · 31/05/2019 06:18

Public transport to Manchester airport I found really good, both tram and train. Fortunately I had a dd who lived at Bagley so would park outside her flat and hop on the tram to the airport or get the train to city and then airport, depending on flight times

lastqueenofscotland · 31/05/2019 07:01

There was something in the MEN recently about how the staff at the Britannia were using the cars left to drop off drugs while you’re away.

SherlockSays · 31/05/2019 07:48

Radios on Blu really is amazing but pricey.

We've stayed at the Premier Inn lately with Meet & Greet parking - just a 5 minute drive over to the airport and then drop the car off. Meet & Greet is amazing on your return as the car is right at the doors for you.

SherlockSays · 31/05/2019 07:49

Raddison Hmm

Having stayed there I can completely believe that. Never again!
