Anyone else? ...share your really daft ideas that you think could work...

So, laughing at myself really....( and obviously too much time on my hands...no actually divergence tactics...should be waxing the new floor!)

I often wonder why we don't sleep upside down...(hear me out???) because that would help my ever increasing saggy, wrinkled face to be smooth.

My thinking is that by sleeping upside down or (maybe more practically in a sloping bed, feet higher than head)' gravity would pull my face the other way for 8 hours a day, combatting the sagging. I know I have creases on my face from sleeping on my side, squashing lines into my cheeks, these wouldn't be there.

Anyone else, share your daft ideas. ( or explain mine...perhaps I have unwittingly invented a new bed! )

A meter that tells me exactly how many calories I've consumed that day (because we all underestimate of course)

Binglebong · 04/06/2019 22:20

Think I'd avoid that one Kitty - too depressing!

I could've really used a glass magnet when dd was about 12-16! She had problems with spatial awareness in relation to growing limbs and we both ended up with cut feet several times from wee bits of glass missed in the clean up!

A machine that looks similar to a sunbed, but instead of tanning your skin, it painlessly removes your body hair while you relax. Ideally the effect would be permanent.

Not knowing much about chemistry or physics, I don’t understand why we can’t incinerate our non-recyclable rubbish, trap all the gases produced and convert them into harmless substances. Maybe all that CO2 could be turned into oxygen and diamonds? OK, even I know that it takes tremendous energy and pressure to create diamonds, so how about graphite for pencils?

If any of the gases are too toxic for this, maybe we should just freeze them into solids, enclose them in a very strong container and bury them. We would hardly need any landfill. Yippee!

Make anyone wishing to pass their driving test do a cycling in traffic course first, and show that they understand things like safe road positioning (eg don't cycle in the gutter). Just like the theory test, you wouldn't be able to do your driving practical test without passing it first. Adapted bikes would be made available for disabled learner drivers. It would improve attitudes of drivers towards cyclists, improve the standard of cycling, and increase people's confidence when cycling on the roads.

End faith schools, both state and private. Children of all faiths should be educated together - those who live in segregation tend to develop funny ideas about each other, and that isn't good for integration, cohesion or building strong communities. Plus, everyone should have equal access to taxpayer funded schools regardless of their parents' religion.

Just like most parks have children's playgrounds, some parks should have free-to-use dog agility courses - I'm sure they'd be very popular. One of the parks in my city has an outdoor splash park for children. It would be amazing if, for the last weekend before they turn it off for the winter and clean it, they allowed dogs in but not children (I think some Lidos do this anyway).

Motorised wheelie suitcases that automatically follow you - perhaps following a signal coming from your mobile phone. Ideally including a mechanism for going up and down stairs and escalators. GPS trackers in suitcases so that you can track down your own baggage if the airline loses it (less "find my iPhone", more "find my suitcase").

A dog licencing scheme where, to get a dog, you have to do a 3 week theory based preparation course, covering everything from nutrition to body language to how to spot a puppy farmer, and once you've got your dog a 6 week practical training and socialisation course, run by properly qualified trainers. Different content for puppies and rescue dogs; one to one sessions available for rescue dogs that can't cope in group sessions. Mandatory pet insurance as part of the licence. Proper laws against, and enforcement against, puppy farmers.

@AvocadosBeforeMortgages

I've long thought that we need a baby licensing scheme too! Only women who can prove they can look after a baby should be allowed to have one.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 05/06/2019 10:57

@LittleKitty I do tend to agree. Compulsory parenting classes too, updated yearly to account for a child's development needs, if you wish to keep your child benefit.

No idea how you'd enforce it fully though as you can't stop people getting pregnant and (though pro choice) I find the idea of forced abortion abhorrent. That said, I'd have sympathy for the idea of sterilising women who have a string of children removed by social services but keep getting pregnant with very predictable results, as the welfare of the children has to be put above the mother in that scenario.

BellMcEnd · 05/06/2019 11:24

@AvocadosBeforeMortgages I love the sound of a pre dog ownership course! I’d be enrolling immediately. We’re hoping to get a puppy later in the year and although I’ve done loads of research, talked to my friends with dogs, got recommendations for puppy training / socialisation classes etc I’m still quite nervous as neither DH nor I have had our own dog before.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 05/06/2019 12:16

@Bell Come and join us in the MN doghouse Wink

When it comes to trainers the best advice I can give you is to look for someone APDT qualified and run a mile from anyone advocating pack leadership / alpha dog theories. Literally anyone can call themselves a dog trainer and IME most dog owners are unable to accurately assess the quality of the training class they've been to, as very often that's the only one they've ever been to and they don't know what good looks like.

@cattenberg I'd put my DP through the hair free machine, it would save me inventing a self cleaning bathroom floor (he leaves hair everywhere)...tho of course surely these are one use only so not much of an earner. Once you're bald, your bald!

I had to chuckle a bit at the notion of using gravity to pull the face toward the top of the head.

Problem with sleeping with head lower than feet is headache.
A couple of friends have mentioned waking with a headache after sleeping with head lower. One was in a tent and just slid into his bag without thinking about it. Next night he spun the bag around and no headache.

Sun cream booths !!!!! Abit like spray tan booths . Currently on day 5 of our holiday and I'm sick to death of applying sun cream to myself and kids . Would love a walk In booth you could just select the factor and hop inside and it sprays you from top to bottom .
