Swimming Club Fees

I’m after some comparison, please... My children’s swimming club fees keep increasing and seem very high at £60 a month (each!). They could swim 5 times a week but only do 3 times maximum (one of which is not formally coached). Neither child is able (or willing) to push for county times, although will occasionally enter a gala. They enjoy swimming but I’m not sure I can keep justifying the cost. If your child is a member of a swimming club, how much do you pay a month? Thanks for the advice!

My daughters club is £25 for 2/3 sessions a week. £20 for 1 and £30 for 4/5. They only have swimming 5 days a week to allow for recovery and still have swimmers at the British champs.

Old club was £50 for 4 sessions a week and a constant push to compete every weekend.

Thanks. Quite a few people left the club recently and I think they’re putting up the fees to cover the loss - but they are just going to alienate more people. I also think we are subsidising a minority who use the morning sessions (which are ridiculously early and impossible for us).

We pay termly but it is about £325 per term for up to 4 sessions per week, total of 5.75 hours a week, only morning session is on a Saturday. That's for a squad for 9-11 year olds who are aiming for county times but on the whole don't have them. The club generally attends two open meets per term.

Oh, that's in Surrey which probably affects the costs as well!

KneelJustKneel · 28/05/2019 17:08

Wow ours is more for that amount of swimming. We pay 40 for 3 x a week but the higher groups with more x a week are 60/80 . They do want you to attend the 5/7whatever sessions though.

Theres a sort of rec version at 2 x a week we might go for instead of squads...

That seems cheap. Maybe they have a good deal on pool hire.

DDs old club started at £60 for 3 sessions and each group up added £25 to the bill. Was paying £125 a month when we left. Plus half that again in race fees.
Not a cheap sport!

Glittertwins · 28/05/2019 17:19

That's not a lot if you use all the sessions available, which as a club member they'd probably be expected to do 3/4 minimum. Pool hire is expensive.

KneelJustKneel · 28/05/2019 17:35

£60 for 5 x a week is only £3 a session which seems cheap. Especially with club tuition as well. Swimming lessons would be far more+

KneelJustKneel · 28/05/2019 17:36

We're not sure we can afford foe the kids to go on to do the higher squads! (Or the time tbh) but they're enjoying it for now.

Runningbackwards · 28/05/2019 17:46

£26 per month for senior squad where you can swim 4 evenings and 3 mornings. Plus annual membership payment of £45. My son can also play waterpolo on Sundays if he wants. So, very good value. However swim clubs and entry fees are expensive. I realise it is the cost of hiring the pool but it is by far the most expensive sport my son has done.

KneelJustKneel · 28/05/2019 18:00

Wow 26 a month thats incredible!!! I cant think of anything that cheap tbh....what on earth have you done cheaper!?

KneelJustKneel · 28/05/2019 18:01

Thats less than £2 a session...

Glittertwins · 28/05/2019 18:34

I checked my old club's fees. They're about the same as OP's and this is in an area of England described as disadvantaged.

soulrider · 28/05/2019 18:47

Ours are between £34 and £44 depending on squad, up to 6 sessions a week. There is also a yearly membership fee of around £60. I think there is also a discount if you have more than one family member in the club. Seems like ours is good value.

KneelJustKneel · 28/05/2019 18:53

Ours goes up to £80-100 for the 11+ squads. Which I cant see us affording. They do train a lot....

But didn't realise other areas were so much cheaper!

soulrider · 28/05/2019 19:00

Just checked some other local clubs and ours is actually a bit more expensive than others.

This is a nearby club, I wouldn't have expected that other places would be double/triple these prices.

Theres only one other club near us....next town along.

Its 70/80 for county squads
90 for regional
100 for performance

And 50 at junior level, so actually looks more expensive for.what my kids are doing!
