Calling techy types - possible virus on iPhone

Graphista · 28/05/2019 00:14

I've an iPhone SE had it nearly 3 years.

Last day or so getting this pop up (see pic) whenever I try to use safari.

VERY annoying! I don't like using blockers as I find they block stuff I do want access to.

I've not done anything weird to phone nor to my knowledge used any dodgy sites.

What's going on and how do I get rid?!

Clear your cookies & website data.

Graphista · 28/05/2019 00:19

How?

Both DP and I have something similar on our phones right now. No idea how we got it.

Graphista · 28/05/2019 00:30

Gah! Still getting dodgy pop ups!

Have you iPhones?

No, Samsung. It catches it most of the time, I get a massive red warning screen. But occasionally it gets through then I see something like this.

AbbieLexie · 28/05/2019 00:45

Hoping someone explains soon as I'm having the same issue.

Teddybear45 · 28/05/2019 00:53

Non-jail broken iphones do not get viruses as Apple operate a closed system unlike Samsung and other brands that use Android. These popups are just based on your cookies and trying to trick you into providing personal details. Delete your cookies and history through Safari and they’ll go away.

ineedaknittedhat · 28/05/2019 00:55

Go into settings then safari and you can clear cookies and browser history there.

Also, switch the phone off completely then turn back on again.

Make sure your update is the latest one as well.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 28/05/2019 00:57

There is a thread about it here:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/3596535-Red-warning-flashing-up?pg=1&order=

It appears that lots of us are/have been getting it regardless of phone make &/or browser type.

Graphista · 28/05/2019 01:20

I've cleared cookies & history twice and it's still happening. Not a jail broken phone it's in exactly the same condition as it was when I bought it new! Aside from apps etc

It's not the red warning thing I'm getting and I'm not on mumsnet site I use the app.

I've never updated the OS though.

Absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to use safari whatever site I go on the pop ups are preventing me from seeing the site I want to.

It's saying its a google thing have google fucked up somehow?

OP posts:
Graphista · 28/05/2019 01:30

I've even just tried using a different search engine - same fucking nonsense!!

OP posts:
Graphista · 28/05/2019 01:32

Even selecting block pop ups on settings isn't working

OP posts:
SunshinePaddles · 28/05/2019 01:39

Try closing the browser window, then completely close safari from the background app (doing the swipe up thing) and then clear your cache and cookies.

Also do you keep going back to the same site when it happens again, if so it may also be the site you are going to.

Graphista · 28/05/2019 02:32

Done all that plus turned phone off and on not going to same site tried several different ones but all reputable well known ones.

OP posts:
SunshinePaddles · 28/05/2019 02:53

Are you running the latest OS? If not then you need to update the OS and see if that fixes it

ineedaknittedhat · 28/05/2019 02:58

The latest OS updates contain security features. People don't realise how important it is to install them.

Graphista · 28/05/2019 03:48

If it was the OS updates then why are so many others having the same issues?

I doubt they're all using the same OS as me

OP posts:
Graphista · 28/05/2019 03:55

Fixed it - but how is VERY worrying - closed down the mn app!!!

@mnhq COME ON! Completely unacceptable if it's YOUR lax IT security causing this!!

OP posts:
TracyBeakerSoYeah · 28/05/2019 04:52

It's been happening on both the website & the app.

Obviouspretzel · 28/05/2019 06:57

Having the same issue, tried all the steps here. I've had it before and usually goes away in a few days.

Graphista · 28/05/2019 22:31

Ok now I can't log in to mn website on my phone.

Said I had the wrong oassword (I didn't!) so did new password thing on a different device (easier to see plus that email address not set up on my phone) but nope! Still saying wrong password it's not!

Just checked and I've been able to log in on other device with new password so what's going on?!

Phone iPhone SE

Other device Amazon Fire
