DD has molluscum contagiosum. Any advice?

DD (13) has a cluster of spots behind her knee on one leg. Been there for months and months. Took her to the GP who confirmed MC and said they'll just go when they're ready.

They're now slowly spreading up her thigh (although not much, a few extra spots maybe).

She's really self conscious about them and won't wear shorts/go swimming/skirts without tights etc. Really difficult with Summer coming.

They do look a bit ghastly although I'd obviously never say that to her Sad There are roughly 20 spots or so.

Any success stories with them? They're showing no signs of going, quite the opposite infact.

I also used tweezers, I thought that was common advice. They went immediately It's also REALLY fun!

Seriously, a lot of people say it works for the same reason that anything works (triggers the immune response) but there's also the risk of them spreading so I can see why they can't officially advise you do it.

Should have said "joking aside" rather than "seriously" as came across like a lecture- sorry!!

Just to add, we did treat them as very infectious so DD had new PJs every night, we put a plaster on any that were about to burst, I stopped her from getting baths and instead she just had showers. If I did touch any, I wore disposable gloves.

My youngest had them badly at ~4yrs on her inner elbows. She was occasionally self conscious but there were a high number of kids in nursery with these already, so luckily she didn't feel the need to hide them away. In the end (after spending money on all the possible solutions!) we stuck with dabbing them with apple cider vinegar each night, which seemed to dry them out, but I think truthfully the thing that made a difference was her scratching open a couple; it seemed to quickly generate an immune response and within days they had scabbed over and gone. I could be linking the two events incorrectly, but seemed like too much of a coincidence.

My daughter has been suffering with these dreaded things for about 3 months now with no improvement and being advised by the doctor to leave them, yesterday one burst and left her in pain so I've finally ordered MolluDab. DD's are in her upper thigh so they seem to be passing back and forth and now spreading. For the people on this post who ordered MolluDab how's it gone? Have you seen any improvement?
My DD is starting to become upset by them and with a holiday coming up I can't leave them any longer.

We’re battling this too. My 5 year old has them on his face so they can’t be covered up at all 😕. The first two came up around 8 months ago, a few months later a third popped up and now there are around 12. We tried Zymaderm for 5 weeks but it made no difference. Neither did tea tree oil. I ordered Molludab but haven’t tried it yet as the skin on his face and around his eyes are so delicate I’m saving it as a last resort.
I’ve been using some thuja cream for around a week and a can see a difference - the three biggest ones have gone red and look drier. They changed as soon as I started using the cream so I’ve ordered some of the pills as I’ve read they can work well together. I’m really hoping they work as the face is a miserable place to have them (not that they are fun anywhere). Thought I’d post as I find it really helpful to see what other people have tried and what has worked. Would be interested to hear if the Molludab had worked for any of the pp on this thread!

We tried tea tree oil too with no effect, it's a nightmare isn't it.
I'll be getting MolluDab delivered today so will keep you posted on our progress over the next few days.

My ds 10 had these for a year- tried tea tree oil, Myrtle oil, silver spray ... basically everything !!! In end they were all over his body and arms- took him back to different doctor who prescribed molludab and within 2 weeks of treating they all went.
Don’t hang about op with all other treatments go straight for molludab.
Also clean towel and pjs every day as apparently they spread by not doing this

Just been to dermatologist with my son who has been absolutely ravaged but them. He has eczema and it is more aggressive with people with eczema, prob due to them scratching a lot and spreading . The derm prescribed fucibet for the ones that are sore and itchy and said we could try potassium hydroxide on the non popped ones if we wanted. To be honest most have popped and scabbed now so not sure I will bother. He had one really bad one which went all hard and had a big patch of red around it a few weeks ago. It was really painful. Dermatologist said that was good as the body was working out how to fight it. So hoping that it may have run it’s course for him.

Bodicea · 27/07/2019 11:03

I should add that my son has about 100. I think maybe it has run it’s course faster than most as it has been so aggressive. My other son has it but only has about 10. Think it will prob take longer to go on him but at least it hasn’t been as stressful for him.

Yes used Molludab thanks to MN recommendations. They went within days. Worth every penny!!

Bodicea · 27/07/2019 12:40

Also Dr gave us a leaflet for something called mollutrex. Don’t know if it is a cheaper brand but worth looking into.

raspberrycordial · 27/07/2019 12:58

I honesty can't recommend thuja cream (as recommended on here a few months ago), enough, my daughter had them for 7 months, I put thuja cream on the dots and a liberal dose anywhere near every night and they honestly went within 3 weeks. It came from amazon, in a white and orange tube

Virgin coconut oil slathered over my sons torso for a week got rid of these spots. Coconut oil has antibacterial properties and is effective on a few different type of skin ailments. I would always try this first before any medication.
