Sachet of sugar free jelly

Not used these before.
Normally I make jelly from the cubes, and I add a tin of fruit, and use the juice from the tino make up the liquid to a pint.

I made this using a sugar free sachet and a tin of mandarins about 2 and a half hours ago and it isn;t showing the slightest sign of setting.

Am beginning to think i hve done something wrong an dit is never going to set.

Should I wait it out or serve a raspberry and mandarin drink ? Grin

How much liquid does it say to use?

check the label on the tin of mandarins. Occasionally the juice is from pineapple - that would stop it setting (too much pectin, or possibly not enough? I forget the details but pineapple and kiwi will both stop jelly setting).

It says to make it up to a pint pixie - I made it slightly less - because there wasn't enough juice andi thought the fruit would add to the volume

Ah - didn;t think the juice might have pineapple in it - I had tinned pineapple but didn't use because I know that stops it setting - but assumed mandarins would just be orange juice - I'll need to do a hand stand in the recycling bin though as I was veyr eficient with my tin disposal Grin

It's actually looking a little more solid now - not proper set - but less liquid than it was. Maybe It will just take ages.

Not sure I'll use these kind of jellies again - it is supposed to be no sugar but actually from licking the spoon it tastes much sweeter than the cube stuff - a bit sickly in fact.

I haven’t tried the sachets but the made-up sugar-free one’s have loads of sweetener in them Envy < not envy

I think this one is the same MayFayner - I'm doing slimming world and they are very keen on 'no sugar' stuff - which generally means 'loads of sweetener instead' which is horrible.

Anyway - I checked and the oranges are in 'mandarin juice from concentrate' and has 'acidity regulator (citris acid) ' in it. Who knew ??Grin

I love mandarin oranges - real ones or tinned - I have a bit of a small orange problem Grin
