Silly things that improve your day

DH just sent me a message that he managed to get a seat upstairs on the train. (Mainland Europe, we have double decker trains).
Although we acknowledge there is no practical reason for it, we do consider upstairs seats superior. There is a better view, but we are usually reading etc. We especially like the top deck on Eurotunnel.

What silly things make your day a bit brighter?

When our dog hears us say good morning to our son, she rushes over and sits patiently by the cot til he pats her head. The baby is 8 months old and has just recently started petting the dog and she absolutely adores it. She wags her tail like there's no tomorrow if she thinks he's going to pat her. It's so cute that it instantly makes me day.

Hellosmellow that makes me smile just reading it!

When my cat rolls over and shows me her tummy. She’s so nervous and scared all the time (previous home was possibly not treated very well Sad ) so her trusting gesture of exposing her Snow White tummy to us makes me melt!

Also a good coffee from my posh machine. Smile

When it's nice and sunny outside even when cold.

When there's time to have an earl grey or herbal tea.

Getting my eyeliner right first time Grin

DamianGrammaticus · 27/05/2019 13:55

I love double decker trains Grin

I need one silent cup of tea around 3.30. Restores my chi.

Getting my eyeliner right first time that’s literally never happened to me! Must be bliss Grin

S0CKS · 27/05/2019 13:57

When my dog greets me shes so excited to see me whether ive literally been out 10 minutes or 10 days and it lets me know no matter how shit my day has been that somebody loves me no matter what

I like the upper deck on buses too, especially right at the front.

When it's sunny enough to activate our solar powered garden fountain, and the birds use it as a bird bath.

Meeting a cat when I'm out and about, especially if it's fearless enough to be stroked by me. Smile

When my DH comes home after working nights and brings me a cup of coffee to wake up to.

When I pick my 2 year old DS up from nursery, he’s non verbal but does the cutest happy dance and gives me a huge hug and kiss. Literally my favourite thing in the world.

ShahOfSplosh · 28/05/2019 19:09

Having an early morning coffee outside and enjoying my wall plaque thing of raspberries pulling funny faces!

My kids getting on and doing stuff together. Dd2 is in the process of being assessed for various conditions (ADD, ADHD and OCD amongst other things) She is very impatient and doesn't take too kindly to well, anything and everything. She also pushes, shoves and hits. As a result she gets short shrift. I do try explaining to her siblings that she is struggling and doesn't have the same thought processes as them but Amity is rare.
Otherwise my gin bottle fairy lights. Yes they are naff but I love them.

Myusernameismud · 29/05/2019 00:01

When DH brings me home silly things he knows I love, like blue post it notes (very hard to come by) or habaneros from the huge chilli plant they have in the office.

When I walk past other people walking their dogs, and the dogs make a beeline for me because they can just tell I'll fuss over them.

When DCs (12 and 10) are getting on instead of bickering and I hear them conspiring about how they're gonna convince me to let them make a camp in the living room and stay up late.

When I'm at the allotment and having a dig, and a very tame blackbird lands next to me and grabs the worm I've just unearthed to feed her babies. The same blackbird took the big pile of DDs hair she had cut off after I pegged it to a fence earlier in the year. Made me feel all soft and fuzzy inside thinking it would keep her babies warm and safe.

When I rescue the reduced, basically dead vegetable plants from homebase and nurse them back to health, and then they give me lovely veg. I feel like a proud mother.

I'm really very easily pleased Grin

When I get up before anybody else and go into the kitchen to put the kettle on, and see a family of roe deer in our garden. I know I shouldn't like them really - they de-headed the sweet peas this weekend, but this year's fawn is especially cute.

Toddlerteaplease · 29/05/2019 04:12

When I get home after a 12 hour shift, and one of my cats jumps onto the table in the hall and yowls to be picked up and cuddled. She then has to be carried round perched on my arm while patting my neck.

Boulezvous · 29/05/2019 05:14

When my son decides to play racing demons with me after dinner. We do lots of mutual insults, singing and silly voices as we play! Or going to play crazy golf with him! He's 16 and most of the time otherwise he's gaming or with his girlfriend.

mathanxiety · 29/05/2019 06:41

When I get my morning pot of tea right.

When the cat allows me to lift her up and carry her around. She recently transferred her affections to DD4 and I miss our little sessions

EssentialHummus · 29/05/2019 06:50

My 20 month old switching on a musical toy and getting up to dance Grin.

I also love random dogs coming over for a fuss - DH will leave me in the park for 5 min while he takes a call and when he comes back there will be a Rottie practically sitting on my lap!

echt · 29/05/2019 06:54

Hearing kookaburras cackling, in the late evening or very early dawn. They are new to where I live, so precious to see wildlife returning. It's mixed with sadness as all this happened after my DH, a bird nut, died. He'd have been beyond thrilled to hear this.

TellMeItsNotTrue · 29/05/2019 23:33

@echt - 💞 maybe it's your husband's way of showing you he is still around, as he knows you will think of him when you see/hear the birds 💞

echt · 30/05/2019 00:40

It's nice thought, though I don't believe in life after death, but there's a pleasing synchronicity about his love of birds and the return of the lovely birds.

Thank you for your kind thought, TellMelts.
