Help! I've dyed baby Annabelle blue!

Help! I put dd's soft-bodied baby Annabelle doll in the wash, and she's come out a deathly grey/blue (I blame a blue jumper that was in there too).

She looks like the offspring of the Genie, or a Smurf/human hybrid at best.

The cloth body is fine, it's just the plastic parts that have a blue tinge - nose and toes being the worst.

Short of rechristening her baby frostbite, what can I do?

She's currently soaking in a bucket of soapy water / vinegar after being scrubbed with washing up liquid

How about soaking in a sterilising tablet? Good luck Smile

Almost spat my tea out at the renaming her baby frostbite! What's your Dchild going to say when he/she finds out?!!

RapscallionKat · 27/05/2019 16:43

Just tell DC she is a baby Frost giant like Loki.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/05/2019 16:52

Dilute bleach, and then a good wash?

ArgusFilchsCat · 27/05/2019 16:56

Try nail varnish remover. Just avoid any painted parts as it will remove those too. Good luck!

WatcherOfTheNight · 27/05/2019 16:58

Blue eyes ? Possible birth of the night queen !

Kez200 · 27/05/2019 16:59

Limited Edition!

I’ve done this recently with a much loved doll and I can tell you that nothing whatsoever gets rid of the blue.

Calltheguards · 27/05/2019 17:04

Tell her she's been upgraded to an Avatar.

My children have scribbled on dolls' faces with biro on several occasions. If I notice at once and wipe it straight away, it'll come off, but if it's been left for a few minutes, it seems to sink into the plastic and won't come out.
That happened a couple of times, and I couldn't bear to throw the doll out, and after a few months, the biro marks disappeared! It seemed to have sunk deeper into the plastic.
So if you can't get the blue off baby Annabel, don't chuck her out, leave her and see if it fades.

Sizeofalentil · 27/05/2019 22:39

Thank you for all your replies - baby Bluebell, as she will now be called, is currently in the washing machine with some towels to see if that perks her up again. All the vinegar bath did was make her smell like a chippy's floor.

On closer inspection, rubbing her with washing up liquid appears to have taken her hair off too. So now she looks like a chilly uncle Fester. Or a sentient blueberry.

Dd is 18months so won't care, but the relative who gave it to her won't see the funny side. My plan is to say nothing, and if she notices, say that I THOUGHT it was weird that she bought DD a strange blue doll. But hadn't wanted to say anything.

Will post photos of her final form tomorrow. Might biro on a moustache and say she's a Tobias Bluth (from Arrested Development) action figure

This is a genius plan. And a bit evil which is why I like it! Great thinking.

8FencingWire · 27/05/2019 22:48

God, I remember the ‘baby Annabelle’ period.
I suggest you buy another one. I’ve traumatised my child for life (or so I thought) when I washed her, she was screaming hysterically at the washing machine whilst the darn doll was going round and round. (I needed it washed and dried before bed time, the offspring threw up on it, it needed washing). God!!! I did put it in a net bag thingy, she could made out it was ‘baby’ in there. I still remember the screaming.
She, thankfully, does not remember the incident (must have been your DD’s age).

Saisong · 27/05/2019 22:54

Dyeing babies blue is definitely HoneyDragon's territory. She prefers the live type though.

strawberrypenguin · 27/05/2019 22:58

Wash it again with a red jumper and see if it comes out pinker?

RaininSummer · 27/05/2019 22:58

Oh dear. So funny. I haven't recovered from seeing my gd using baby A like a foot pump, apparently to make her wee.

IggyAce · 27/05/2019 23:03

Sorry OP no helpful advice, but you have made me laugh.

Ohyesiam · 27/05/2019 23:07

Picture!

Tavannach · 27/05/2019 23:08

Think I read on here that hairspray takes felt pen off dolls. Might be worth a shot.

cheesenpickles · 27/05/2019 23:26

Shamelessly placemarking to see the frostbitey bald doll
