2 nights away in uk in June. Where shall we go?

My DH and I have been gifted 2 nights away by my parents for my birthday. We have 2 nights mid week in middle of June.
We would like somewhere that has some nice places to eat, a few interesting things to see (castles, gardens, history etc) and isn't too busy. A beach or beautiful lake would be a plus.

We are in Cambridgeshire and happy to travel up to 3 hours away.

Hit me with your best ideas please!

The Peak District, perhaps stay in Derby where there are lots of restaurants and real ale pubs to eat out, and have trips out to Chatsworth House, Blue John mines, Matlock and Bakewell. There is a lake you can walk around, Carrsington (?) Water.

Thanks @AdaColeman

Sadly though, literally the only place we have done as a couple in the uk is Bakewell!! We did it a number of years ago, did Chatsworth, blue John mines, heights if Abraham etc.

It was so lovely, it would be perfect except my DH wants to go somewhere else.

But you are totally on my wavelength! Any other ideas?

Bath,Oxford, Stratford upon Avon?
Dorset is lovely if you want a beach.

Budapest from Stansted - return flight mid June e.g wed - fri is under £80. Morning flight out and evening flight back.

Bath! You can pop over to Cheddar Gorge which is fab, down to Stonehenge if you fancy it, or just stay in Bath and hang out. Theres a lake in the Mendips too.

Stay in or near Ripon. You could visit Harrogate and Malham Cove to the west, or eastwards to Castle Howard. If time allowed, you could reach the coast. Perhaps come home via Hull to visit The Deep.

I loved York.

AdaColeman · 26/05/2019 21:27

From Ripon you could also visit Fountains Abbey and Studley(?) Water Gardens.

If it's in budget Burgh Island, it's amazing.

Ooooo thanks, lots of googling tonight!

Keep the ideas coming, we are staying uk based this time as my passport has run out and we are going abroad in autumn. But love the idea of Budapest!

Are you members of the National Trust OP If not I recommend.

Go to Kent. Not too far to travel and lots of NT properties to visit plus diverse coastline too. You could do multiple visits all within the same day.
