Ds1 has requested a family picnic for his birthday. He has asked for brownies but what else would make a nice, interesting picnic?

Some nice pasta salads and quiches? Btw your son sounds lovely. I hope mine want family picnics when they're 13.

Watermelon and a big knife!
Quails eggs, they’re posh but also fun.
Can you order or make a pain surprise with his favourite fillings?
13 is too young for booze, so some interesting or funky drink? Milkshakes, ginger beer?

That thing were you hollow out a loaf of bread and fill it with various layers of stuff, then put the top back on and leave it in the fridge overnight to "set". You can slice it up the next day like a loaf, it's delicious. Works well with a bloomer. Can't remember what it's called though!

Whatever his favourite type of sandwich is.
I would've appreciated a M&S lattice pork pie!
Sausages on sticks.
Cherry tomatoes.
Fruit skewers.
