Picked up some rhubarb but am looking for some inspiration instead of a standard crumble!

Any rhubarb recipes?

Thank you for all the info btw. 🌱

@EnidButton We were very lucky to have an already established plant in our garden when we moved. It keeps coming back though and all you really need to do is keep on top of picking the rhubarb that's ready to be picked! I didn't know until the last month that the leaves are poisonous though Shock not that I'd ever thought to eat them, but I was surprised.

Make cordial! Rhubarb and root ginger is bloody lovely. This blog has a really good recipe for it poptarticles.blogspot.com/2016/06/the-importance-of-being-cordial.html

itwent Sounds easy enough. Might give all the frogs somewhere to hide as well. Surprised about the leaves!

If you've got your own rhubarb patch you should cut the flower stalks off before it manages to flower. The rhubarb will be good for longer that way :)

Iamnuts · 27/05/2019 13:38

Rhubarb and strawberry crumble.

Savoury rhubarb compote goes really well with fresh mackerel and herring.

Purpletigers · 27/05/2019 13:52

When I was little we would have it stewed with “plain” bread for afternoon tea.

I made rhubarb bbq sauce on Saturday. Its very nice

YetAnotherUser · 27/05/2019 15:34

I have a few crowns of rhubarb in my garden. I can recommend rhubarb crumble with a splash of port (I use blackberry wine), rhubarb gin, rhubarb wine if you're into homebrew, or perhaps rhubarb and ginger jam.

Throw it away.

Raaaaaah · 27/05/2019 15:43

There is an amazingly Anna Jones beetroot, rhubarb and potato gratin. It’s delicious but I don’t use as many pink peppercorns as she suggests as I found them over powering.

Also we love strawb and rhubarb compote in our porridge with flaked almonds and maple syrup.

Raaaaaah · 27/05/2019 15:45

Oh and ours grows really well in a hot sunny spot. I do manure it each year but that’s it.

Sn0tnose · 27/05/2019 15:49

Throw it away. That won’t work. The bloody stuff takes root everywhere. You need to pour petrol on it and burn it.

GiantKitten · 27/05/2019 15:50

I bought some jam recently that’s strawberry, rhubarb & vanilla. It’s lovely Smile

There’s a recipe here - it’s Australian but I assume their rhubarb is the same as ours Grin

Damn good tip! I've now got a section in my notes app called "Rhubarb patch". Preparing early. Grin

Wineinateacupnosaucer · 27/05/2019 19:58

Super advice- thank you!

Kind of like the idea with Mackerel- but have none.

No ground almonds either for the tart :(

Shopping tomorrow!
