Reconditioned laptop?

Hi, I need a laptop to work from home. It doesn't need to be top of the range as I'll be using it for checking emails and writing word documents mostly, but I'd like it to be fast and reasonably light.

I wouldn't like to spend more than £500, ideally less as I only work from home perhaps 4 days a week. For that budget, I imagine a refurbished laptop might be my best choice - I've bought a refurbished iPad and phone before on Mumsnet recommendations and I've been delighted. So much so, I realise there's little point in buying these sort of devices (and many other items) new, unless you need top spec, which I don't.

Can you recommend a) a light, fast laptop with a good size screen b) a reliable shop to but it from and c) do you know if it comes with pre-installed software from the previous owner? That'd be a huge plus for me.

Anything else I need to know?

I'm on the same boat and I hope someone here will give us some recommendations!

Would a chromebook work for you? They cost far less than laptops and are good for internet, emails and documents - Google docs is on there when you buy it but you can get Microsoft office on it. The dcs find it good enough for homework and dh has when to work from home one (but he also has a laptop in the office). Dd just got a new one for less than £300.

Is a Chromebook different to a regular laptop?
