Straggly hair ends

An obvious solution would be to cut the hair so it's all equal length but that would mean shortening my hair by several inches as some of the longest strands are 4-5 inches longer than the shorter strands..

Any idea what causes this / solutions?

Are you black? Or mixed black? This picture is of heat damaged curly hair.

The only way to get rid of heat damage is to cut it off. No point in trying to cover it up with oils and conditioning or whatever. Waste of money and still looks crap.
