If you had torn ligaments in your leg, and attended hospital, would they provide you with a sick note?

You don't need a sick note for the first 7 days, after that it would usually be your GP that signs you off.

No. Self certify for the first 7 days and FIT note from your GP thereafter.

Ok that makes sense

Would you get any proof from the hospital?

It’s should all be on your medical records for your GP to see. You don’t need ‘proof’ from the hospital for your employer. There should be no problem to self cert and any time off after that should be covered by a signed FIT note from your GP.

Thanks. Just have a sneaking suspicion someone is “at it” and trying to figure out if there’s a way of proving one way or the other.

Sorry for being vague

Prove that you haven’t got an injury? Well they can’t. You’re entitled to self cert for the first 7 days and after that if a GP signs you off then they have assessed you and said you’re not for to work which you’ll have in writing.
