Let's have a thread where to talk about things we're no longer afraid of, which used to be problematic to us.
I used to be afraid of:
Being assertive. I was afraid of being punished in some way if I stood my ground, along the lines of "don't answer back". My brother was recently surprised at my assertiveness (after a childhood of regularly winding me up).
Swimming. I couldn't do it until my early twenties; now I love it.
Making phone calls; I was afraid of being laughed at.
Playing a team sport: absolutely hated this at school, now I do it regularly.
Lighting matches: a bit obscure, I know. I was afraid of burning myself, to say nothing of all the terrible things that happen if you "play with matches". My mum kept making me light matches to try and overcome this.
