3yr old complaining of sore mouth

Any ideas what this could be?

He’s quite distressed by it, very restless sleep. Only started saying it this evening. I’ve looked in his mouth and see nothing obvious, he is prone to an ulcer now and again but I can’t see one. I don’t think it’s that anyway as he knows what that feels like and tells me he has an ulcer.

Any ideas?

Maybe the start of hand foot and mouth? Check his hands and feet for small red spots. My dad(3.5) had this recently and it started with her being quite distressed and complaint of mouth pain, I don't think the ulcers on her tongue were obvious at first but soon became quite visible.

Ah I never thought of that, thanks. Would the spots be out already? Ive checked his hands and feet but he doesn’t have any.

Could it be his back molars? I thought they get some teeth around then?

Pop along to your pharmacist and ask them to take a look? No appointment necessary

He has all his teeth so I know it’s not that.

Pharmacy is a good idea, will do that

Tonsillitis? My ds is 4 and always says his mouth hurts when he has a sore throat.

My son used to say that when his throat was sore, I think they don't have he language for 'throat', so they say mouth. Check his tonsils and see if they are red/ swollen etc.
