Visiting London this week, we're staying in Watford.

Can I travel from there to Euston on a contactless card like you do on the tube? Or do we need to buy tickets?

I'm from the North and a easily confused!

Yes you can. You can use an Oyster card/contact less card both on the Overground (which is slow) or on a train (can't remember the company as it changed but either is or was East Midlands and usually terminates at either Milton Keynes or Tring) which is much quicker.

Thank you! To confuse matters we'll have DS who is 12, I guess we'll need to buy a ticket for him?

Yep, platform 9 from Watford junction, try to get the fast train, stops only once or twice, and is 20 minutes-ish.

Otherwise it stops at every stop and is near an hour.

Go to the ticket office at WJ and get a childs travel card from there.

It's London midland btw.

Check the London Northwestern website regarding trains as I think there are some bus replacements running over this BH weekend.
