Edinburgh hotels

Could anyone recommend a really lovely hotel in central Edinburgh for one night in August? It's a gift for my parents as a thank you present so I'd love somewhere a bit special. TIA

You may struggle to get a decent priced room as it's bang in the middle of the festival. Try the Balmoral or Waldorf Astoria. The Witchery has rooms too. Not sure what the Scotsman is like these days since it was taken over.

chipsandpeas · 24/05/2019 21:13

how much do you want to spend as august is festival time so even the cheapest hotels are £££

Waldorf, balmoral or the Sheraton are our treat hotels.

Have a look at The Glasshouse or the Balmoral

DropZoneOne · 24/05/2019 21:40

Depends on budget and stule, but August prices are nuts!

Balmoral is lovely, but probably the most expensive.

What about the Kimpton? Was Principal Charlotte Square, lovely rooms and fab gin cocktails. They do these tuck boxes in the rooms, such a nice touch

You would definitely be better out of Edinburgh or out of August (unless it is for your parents to go to the Fringe). Edinburgh hotels are expensive at the best of times ( more so than London I find) and RIDICULOUS during the Fringe.
What about another area of Scotland. Stobo Castle Hotel is gorgeous.

Prestonfield House hotel is stunning, fab rooms and beautiful grounds.

Sheraton

glasshalfsomething · 24/05/2019 22:52

I’d second the one that used to be the principal

babysharkah · 24/05/2019 23:25

You'll struggle for one night in August, they normally want two, or at least they used to. It's been a while since I lived there.

The Balmoral is definitely a minimum of two nights during August. A fancy room at the Malmaison out in Leith might be an alternative - or, as PPs have said, consider a bit further afield.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions, I'll get googling!

I lived there for a few years and worked in high end hotels while I was there, I'd go with the Balmoral but it will be ££££, the Scotsman was also nice when I was there, and of course the Caledonian (Waldorf Astoria) and the Sheraton, does it definitely have to be August? If you could just tip it over into September it will be much cheaper!
