It's the Glorious 25th May: Truth! Freedom! Justice! Reasonably priced love! And a hard-boiled egg.

Oh g'won @mnhq lilacs please!!

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 24/05/2019 21:24

If I knew where I could get some, I would be.

Sir Prerry, thank you for all you gave us.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 24/05/2019 21:25

Small gods, SirPterry.

CMOTDibbler · 24/05/2019 21:31

Rubayait - yes, its always a funny day. My mum loved TP from the moment my brother arrived home from a university visit in 1986 with The Colour of Magic and the Light Fantastic. After that, every book was bought in hardback and fought over as to who got to read it first.
Mum developed dementia around the same time as he did, and lost the ability to read shortly after.
So it makes me think of her, and all the conversations we had about Discworld.

DuchessSybilVimes · 24/05/2019 22:22

Sweeping in.....

....sweeping out.

With a dragon.

JellySlice · 24/05/2019 22:41

I met SirT once. He was very pleasant, but seemed shy and uncertain. When his dementia diagnosis was made public, I wondered whether I had met him near the beginning of his illness.

Sadly, my lilac finished flowering a couple of weeks ago.

allthelittleangelsriseupriseup · 24/05/2019 22:41

I think you can all guess what my favourite book is!

HavelockVetinari · 24/05/2019 22:50

@DuchessSybilVimes

And he knew that no power in the world was going to prevent Sybil sweeping on down to the reception. That woman couldsweep. Things stayed swept after she'd gone past.

The lilac in the garden is finished but I shall be wearing something appropriate of colour.

GenuineKlatchianPottery · 24/05/2019 23:03

All the little angels rise up rise up.
I was lucky to spend a weekend at one of the early conventions. Sir Terry was there along with Steven Briggs, I spent a few hours chatting with them in the barn the first night. There was an auction to raise money for the Orangutan Foundation, one of the prizes was to be named in a future book. The winner? John Lawn Smile
Fabulous memories of that weekend.

I’m new to the legendary Mr Pratchett, it’s like falling MFP a world you have never visited before, but have always belonged in.

I may be in love with Captain Carrot.

But I’m in lust with Moist.

justasking111 · 24/05/2019 23:03

Ahh. this thread has brought a tear to my eye. As a poor young mum wandering the library I espied a book cover of the maddest colours and illustrations, I picked it up and never looked back. My dream at airports struggling with two small children and all the bags whilst OH parked car was luggage on legs. Grin

ErrmWTAF · 24/05/2019 23:04

Me! Reasonably priced love.

Lllot5 · 24/05/2019 23:06

Oh ok I get it now. You’re talking about Terry Pratchett books.
Never read any shall I start? And where?

ErrmWTAF · 24/05/2019 23:13

Lloot, this specific book is Night Watch. A Sam Vimes time travel story. Beautiful and poignant, funny and rich. I've read it probably 20 times now and I still blub like a little bitch Every Time.

WitchDancer · 24/05/2019 23:22

If you don't know why, you shouldn't be wearing lilac

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 24/05/2019 23:23

Wotcha. I don't have any lilac, but I will have a hard-boiled egg. Grin

Lllot5 · 24/05/2019 23:26

Thanks all I’ll get on it and report back.

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 24/05/2019 23:26

The lilac in my garden didn’t flower this year Sad.

The only one of my fandoms I don’t have a MN nickname for is Discworld. I need to find something before Good Omens comes. But I did think that there was something a little bit Ankh Morpork about the Game Of Thrones finale, in the way that everything wasn’t suddenly great, because people are still people, but there was a tiny bit of progress. Tyrion would fit right in in Ankh Morpork.

Spudlet · 24/05/2019 23:27

We are not boyjoys though, just to make that clear. And could you please ensure you out my furniture somewhere where it won't get shot at...

Binglebong · 24/05/2019 23:36

🌾 closest I could find!

TitianaTitsling · 24/05/2019 23:46

Probably outing but for my 30th DH got me a double signed copy of Good Omens. I cried a lot!

TitianaTitsling · 24/05/2019 23:48

I have heard the Adam from the Netflix things not blond? I always imagined him blond!

ContessaIsOnADietDammit · 24/05/2019 23:56

I must get my egg out...
