Cf ex pestering for 'advice'

Got a text from a long-ago ex asking when he could ring for 'advice' on something unspecified (not a serious matter apparently). For many years we've been vaguely in touch socially but haven't seen each other in five years or so and no longer have much in common.

I replied asking what was going on and since then he's texting/ringing daily asking the same thing and telling me when he's free to have this chat he wants. I replied once more to clarify that I'd like him to tell me how I can help. He leaves voicemails which offer no explanation. (Why ask when is a good time to ring and then ring anyway asking me to text telling him when it's a good time to ring ffs??)

I'm trying to work a little grey rock on this as it seems unnecessary to block his number at this stage. I kind of admire his inability to take a hint! What's a good way to draw a pleasant or neutral line under this?

Talk to him on the phone?

pasturesgreen · 24/05/2019 15:50

Since he's a long-ago ex you haven't seen in five years, I wouldn't have replied at all, but since you did, and seem averse to the only sensible option blocking his number, just have a brief chat with the guy to ascertain what the hell he wants from you and go from there.

It's a booty call. Block his number, unless you fancy one too.

sackrifice · 24/05/2019 15:53

Block his number and then he can't ask?

The ‘something unspecified’ will be his erection.

Why let yourself be dragged back into this?

greenwaterbottle · 24/05/2019 16:09

I'd have to ring just out of nosyness and so I could hang up after.

So much this.

TwattingDog · 24/05/2019 16:13

What do you do for a living? Is it something that he wants to benefit from for free?

frozenpeasandartichokehearts · 24/05/2019 16:34

100% sure it's nothing to do with sex. Dh and I wondered if he's working a 12 step programme, or planning a grand gesture toward his wife who is likely to finally be fed up with his manipulative bullshit.

Dog I'm a housewife. Maybe he wants to know how to get a stain out of something. :)

We used to do voluntary work together so we know the same stuff about the same things.

If he actually wanted to know about something he would have just texted it to you.

MissConductUS · 24/05/2019 17:45

Since you know he has form for manipulative bullshit just block him. No good can come from interacting with him.

frozenpeasandartichokehearts · 24/05/2019 17:53

sack yeah I think a normal person with a question would just text the question, or they'd ring without all the drama.
