I've just watched my neighbours drive off with a 3-seater sofa balanced on top of their Toyota Corolla (diagram attached)

It was a perfect MN meets Friends moment 😅 I heard a kerfuffle outside and saw my Syrian neighbours loading a huge sofa onto the roof of their car. There was a lot of shouting (which I think was Kurdish for PIVOT) before they drove off with the sofa resting on the roof and two teenagers in the back holding it with their hands sticking out of the windows. It was very well executed Grin

I witnessed it from above and unfortunately didn't have time to grab my phone so the sketch is an aerial one from memory Grin

So if he brakes sharply that's going to fly off and cause an accident then....?

Sorry to ruin a funny moment!

FiremanKing · 23/05/2019 18:09

Brilliant drawing. Grin

EmrysAtticus · 23/05/2019 18:12

Fab drawing but I agree with pp that it is incredibly dangerous.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/05/2019 18:12

Too much to hope that's really their numberplate?Grin

SecretNutellaFix · 23/05/2019 18:26

I hope they aren't going to travel far like that!

That is appallingly dangerous. The diagram/sketch is awesome Grin

Biscusting · 23/05/2019 19:07

The danger the pose to the general public aside. Not only did you draw this but you took the time to COLOUR IT IN! I’m still laughing.

Let hope the police come knocking and you can present them with your witness diagram. 🤣

FriedEggsAndMushrooms · 23/05/2019 19:14

Brilliant diagram! Love the number plate LTB1 Grin

Sorry I didn't realise this had posted twice! Blush Stupid phone Angry

Yes it is appallingly dangerous, god knows where they were going with that sofa. I live in a semi-lawless land but even this had me rolling my eyes. Wink

That's nothing, where I live three seater sofa on the back of a motorbike is a regular sight! Bonus points if someone is sitting on it (I am not even joking)

Knittedfairies · 23/05/2019 19:23

Very dangerous!
We once sat in the car park at B@Q watching a man wrestle two fence panels onto the roof of his car - no rack, directly onto the roof. He then opened all the car windows and laboriously tied the panels on with rope, passing it through the open windows and over the top before knotting each piece very securely. This took rather a long time... He then tried to open the door to drive away, and obviously couldn't because of the rope through the window. I thought my husband would bust a gut laughing. We didn't stay for the second act.

HelmutFrontbut · 23/05/2019 19:29

Ah terribly they obviously have great balance 😂😂

MrsBungle · 23/05/2019 19:33

Ohyesiam · 23/05/2019 19:35

I only wish I had the power to award you Diagram of the Decade on behalf of the whole of Mumsnet.

JaneJeffer · 23/05/2019 19:35

Yes they are my neighbours. Lovely people (Syrian) living in an EU country (not UK) Life is very complicated for everyone at the moment!

Fantastic diagram.

A friend of mine once borrowed a works estate van to transport a washing machine. Managed to get it in the back of the van, a perfect fit. It was all going smoothly until he braked and the washing machine slid across the floor and smashed the glass in the back window Grin Now that was amusing to watch from the car behind Grin

bobstersmum · 23/05/2019 20:29

Oh my goodness! What country are you in, is this normal there? I have seen in India whole families travelling on one motorbike, it's totally normal there!

leasedaudi · 23/05/2019 20:56

This morning at 6am I was waiting to cross a road when a car went through the intersection and three polling tables went flying off the roof 😮. The driver was lucky nobody was hurt. Another lady and I dragged them off the road, and the cops sitting at the traffic lights didn't bat an eye, at the old man driver or us ladies doing the heavy work to make the road safe!

HelmutFrontbut · 23/05/2019 21:05

bobster geographically Middle East, officously Europe Grin Work that one out!

That's a great illustration of how to break an arm the easy way OP, perhaps you could do a book of Darwinism?
