Anyone been to Seville?

DP and I have just spontaneously booked a 3 night trip to Seville next week, Monday - Thursday. No DC.

Never been but wanted to go for ages. Any tips?? Especially restaurants and things we should book ahead.

Thank you!

Watching with interest. We will be going in August from USA. Dh Ds2 and his Gf and Dd2. Im so excited. Few days there then on to England, where Dh is from.

Book the Alcazar and the Cathedral roof tour in advance before you go. They are both fantastic.

Seville is fab - was a few years ago but loved the old quarter around the cathedral (all the food was great) - enjoy!

eurochick · 23/05/2019 07:07

I went years ago so can't recommend specific restaurants but I second the vote for the Alcazar.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 23/05/2019 07:23

I went a couple of weeks ago.

Lovely but too hot for me (30c): locals were all in jeans and ankle boots whilst I was wilting in linen Grin Definitely buy Alcazar tickets in advance. Possibly cathedral ones too, though I went mid-afternoon when the queue had died down.

Hotel Inglaterra was recommended to me as a great spot for a drink - rooftop bar with views over the city.

Segway and bike tours looked fun. There are also kayak tours on the river.

People were lovely and food was great.

Yeah definitely see the Alcazar

There's a mushroom thing you can go up for views as well. Its called Metropol Parasol.

Also if you like a spa then Aire de Sevilla is amazing. Its all underground and candlelit. Really lovely.

TapasForTwo · 23/05/2019 07:34

Don't go up the Giralda bell tower at midday Grin

Kedgeree · 23/05/2019 07:38

Lovely place, but unbearably hot in high summer - and I like the heat. Should be perfect at this time of year. Eat out round the tapas bars after 10pm.

stargaryenearlyadopter · 23/05/2019 07:49

Do a tapas food and drink tour, great for culture and finding all those great little restaurants.

Hoppinggreen · 23/05/2019 07:59

Awesome place, was last there in Feb
Do see a Flamenco show, most of them are touristy and probably not very authentic but enjoyable anyway . DH and the DC only agreed to go to shut me up but they admitted that they actually enjoyed it!
Do the Alcazar but book tickets online or you will be stood in a warm long Q
The area round the cathedral is nice to explore but beware ladies thrusting plants at you, they will expect money in return and get cross when you don’t give it to them

Maquila Bar and Restaurante Az-Zait were standout meals for us. But you can eat well at so many places. We found TripAdvisor was pretty much on point for suggestions. We loved it so much we plan to go back.

Have a great time.

Check if the spring festivals are still on, lots of flamenco dancing and colourful processions through the streets. Might be a bit late for that actually...
We loved it. Hot and busy but loads to do and see, and the food was amazing!

DisplayPurposesOnly · 23/05/2019 09:18

Feria finished a couple of weeks ago (it started just after I left).

fussychica · 23/05/2019 09:29

We loved Seville. Stunning city.

Msfoxy17 · 23/05/2019 09:33

Seville is a beautiful city...when I was there one July there was a sweet smell of oranges throughout the city.
It was also extremely hot - 40 degrees (c)! You don't see many locals walking around in the heat of the midday sun.
We took a boat tour on the river (under canopy) which brought some welcome relief from the heat!

SmarmyMrMime · 23/05/2019 09:35

I didn't have the best trip as my eyes were swollen from an allergic reaction so I could barely see! I remember the cathedral being stunning and going to the cinema to watch Scooby Doo just to get into air conditioning for a few hours. I think we were out too early in the evening to appreciate the nightlife but I wasn't feeling my best to try being out later.

Go to the Plaza dEspana - it’s a stunning piece of architecture, with all the Spanish provinces represented in gorgeous tiled mosaics along the front of the colonnades. It’s set in acres of beautiful lush gardens, streams and trees, with four museums in them. A lovely cool retreat from the heat. You can get a rowboat on the water in front of the Plaza.
As PPs said, prebook the Alcazar - the queues are two and a half hours long with no shade, while all the booked tour parties are ushered in ahead of you if you don’t.
The food is superb in Seville - you’ll see loads of delis with Iberico hams, fab patisseries etc and the tapas restaurants are scrumptious.
If you’re thirsty in the heat, everywhere sells huge jugs of iced Sangria that go down a treat!
