Please can someone point me in the right direction🙏 I need the certificate from my first marriage in order to complete my passport application, I'm fairly certain of the year but I cant remember the and on the government website for ordering certificates the date is required.
Is there any way to find out?
Thanks in advance 😊

My mum would know...could you ask a family member?

Flower777 · 22/05/2019 12:32

My mum would know mine I mean. I don’t think she will know yours unfortunately.

Mumofboys95 · 22/05/2019 12:33

How can you not remember when you got married? Will your family or friends who attended your wedding remember the date?

Can you ask the register office/ church that conducted the ceremony?

ArnoldBee · 22/05/2019 12:35

You don't need to if you order from the gro as they will search around a 2 year period for you. I don't know if that is the case outside England and Wales.

Whosorrynow · 22/05/2019 12:50

Why can't I remember? well it was in the 1980s, cut me some slack🤣
I have tried contacting the register office but there don't appear to be any humans available to speak on the phone 🙄

off on a bit of a tangent but this whole thing where you have to order certificates and pay 15 quid for each one ....well it's just a rip-off to make more money out of us isn't it?
Why can't you just give them the information and they can check that the records say that the marriage or the birth or whatever did take place?
75 quid for a passport and then another 30 quid because I have to order two certificates 🙄🤦‍♀️

Are you sure you need the exact date? I order certificates all the time for doing family tree and I never know the date.

SaskiaRembrandt · 22/05/2019 13:24

You don't' need the exact date, just the quarter, and they'll search either side of the possible date.

It is odd that you don't know - I got married for the first time in the 80s too, the date will live in infamy in my memory Grin

MWNA · 22/05/2019 16:36

It's not odd at all.
I have no clue of even the year of my first marriage.

TapasForTwo · 22/05/2019 17:02

"Why can't I remember? well it was in the 1980s, cut me some slack"

I got married in 1981 and can remember the exact date.

isseywithcats · 22/05/2019 18:09

my first wedding was in 1974 and i can still remember tha date, do you still have any photos they might have the date stamped on the back of them

FlamingoFlamenco · 22/05/2019 19:34

I'm sure if you have your decree absolute it will be on there.

wowfudge · 22/05/2019 19:38

No it's not a rip off - you're ordering a copy because presumably you can't find the original. You only need an official copy for certain purposes. It's not as if they are making you order the certificate. The cost of the original will have been covered by the fees you paid for the marriage service at the time.

BabyDueDecember2019 · 22/05/2019 20:20

Are you in touch with your ex to ask them?

Do you have any family who may recall the month?

Lllot5 · 22/05/2019 22:40

What was the weather like?

FiremanKing · 22/05/2019 22:53

It will be on ancestry.com

I have a short first marriage from 1980s also and no clue now what day it was, other than the month.

What is the matter with some people!

Whosorrynow · 23/05/2019 09:59

Thanks to all those who replied 😊
I managed to find my divorce documents and the marriage date was on there, in my memory I had a vague idea it might have been Summer but turns out it was in December 🤭

My next move would have been to ask Flower777's mum, she sounds more knowledgeable than Google ☺️
