coconuttelegraph · 21/05/2019 19:45

No need to announce your post, just tell us

HappyHammy · 21/05/2019 19:46

We're here waiting.

FiremanKing · 21/05/2019 19:46

What about the dad’s?

elfycat · 21/05/2019 19:48

And welcome to MN (Unless you have NC)

It's most usual to put all information into a post, rather than start and then give the information later. Of course sometimes information becomes relevant later on, but a full-ish explanation in the first instance would be great.

FiremanKing · 21/05/2019 19:48

Did he get a message saying they’d hacked his account and know he viewed porn and he had to send them money/bitcoin or else?

LadyOfTheCanyon · 21/05/2019 19:50

I'm pulling up a chair for this one.

rareappearance · 21/05/2019 20:29

Did he get a "dear victim" email

Batshittery · 21/05/2019 20:36

Ahem. Please go ahead.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 21/05/2019 20:37

If it was a random email asking for bitcoin I get them most weeks!

holdupthere · 21/05/2019 20:40

Were they going to expose all his porn history to all his contacts?! Spying via webcam?

Cmon, don't leave us in suspense!

SparklyMagpie · 21/05/2019 20:41

Oh no maybe OP has now been cyber blackmailed also!!

TerribleTwosPhase · 21/05/2019 20:41

Was it an email saying they had his browsing history or had accessed his webcam by any chance?

Sorry all, had the police here.
No he's 16 and it was on FB. He rarely used FB so(and the police did about 10 different setting changes) he had no idea how to make himself safe. I'm not on FB and neither is his Dad. We have however told him how to keep safe on the internet, he didn't listen.
So this apparent friend of a friend messaged him. Long story short she took her clothes of saying she was 18 etc etc...... we've subsequently screenshot shot all this and she defo did.
My son, without going into too much detail, did what 16 year old boys do. She screenshot it and told him she wanted £2½k.
He came down and told me. I'd like to say how important it is that he did. I immediately told him not to worry. She said "I will ruin your life, I will show your friends your school and your family, I will watch and when you want work I will show your employer".
I told him it was all tack ticks to frighten him.
She said if he hung up shed post it all and put a pic of his face on.
I hung up and called the police
They were amazing.ade him feel at ease and said they'd send someone straightaway. They had a unit here within an hour and have just followed up
They've taken all the details his screenshots the URL address and been onto FN who have prevented any further spreading of the pictures.
He is now happy and content.
He's alerted all his friends , and been so brave.
Yes he was very stupid in the 1st place, but the fact he over came his embarrassment and told us all has saved him from untold damage.
Encourage children to tell immediately should they slip up, it will be ok, there are things that can be done.
Phew!

So lucky he could tell you xx

TerribleTwosPhase · 21/05/2019 22:09

Glad he was able to talk to you & tell you about it Smile
The thought of my dd growing up with so much social media scares me sometimes, it is really something we all need to be very careful with/ teach our kids about!

HappyHammy · 21/05/2019 22:27

I hope she gets caught soon so she can stop ruining people's lives.

FiremanKing · 21/05/2019 22:30

How utterly despicable to prey on a 16 year old boy.

I’m glad it’s sorted and he is ok.

MJV19 · 21/05/2019 22:35

The police have said it's a gang from somewhere in Europe. At 1 point 1 of the threats was in French!! Then quickly changed. "She" also told him "oh I lied I'm not 18 and you'll be arrested now for being a paedo" he was so scared, but we'd screenshot where she said she was 18 and the police said it was a tack tick. "She" said "I know you're doing your GCSE'S" school will throw you out and you'll be finished.
Such horrible people.
