Streaming and red for a good 2 weeks so went to the nurse last week who said conjunctivitus and perscribed antibiotics eye drops (she checked with GP). They are only abit crusty int he morning but I think that's probably due to the wateriness of them during the night they arent gunky during the day or even sticky I did tell her this. Have used the drops and eyes were ok for a couple of days but today they are red and watery again.

Do I go back to GP this time or just put it down to pollen

Do they get better if you take an anti-histamine tablet?

Seeline · 21/05/2019 08:49

Try taking some antihistamine tablets, or using some antihistamine eye drops and see what happens? You can get both OTC.

A pharmacist can prescribe for both conjunctivitis and hayfever so I'd go there if you want a second opinion. When I had conjunctivitis it felt that I had glass in my eyes, really painful, not just the itchiness and swelling that I get from hayfever .

Someone said at work it could be "dry eyes" and go to the opticians
They dont hurt they are just a little, bit irritated

Went back to GP she agreed wasnt conjunctivitus but doesnt know what it is said to go to the optician. She said to try drops for dry eyes and also an antihistmine this did nothing.

Next week will be 6 weeks my eyes have been constantly running Im having to dab them with tissue all the time which is now making my skin sore.

Am at opiticans next week but really rrally fed up now

So not conjunctivitus, not pollen or hayfever, drops for sore eyes did nothing. What could it be?

It still could be hay fever. There are two types of antihistamines. Loratidin and Ceterizine (may have spelt them wrong) and only Loratidin works for me.

I did have sore eyes for ages at one time and ended up having prescription hayfever drops and tablets .

I also had to use a lubricant at night which helped 100%.

Let me know if you want the names of the prescriptions and the lubricant you can buy over the counter . I literally spent a small fortune trying different drops and tablets!

VincentVanGoughandhisear · 30/05/2019 21:40

Clinitas Carbomer 0.2% Gel
That is what the lubricant is called.

LesserBohemian · 30/05/2019 21:41

Do you think it could have been a sudden pollen allergy reaction that has made then made the surface of your eyes irritated and inflamed, perhaps a little infected, so despite taking the antihistamine, they are still sore?

LesserBohemian · 30/05/2019 21:43

Also yy to trying a different type of AH - only cetirizine works for me!

Myusernameismud · 30/05/2019 21:46

Vincent there are lots more types of antihistamine.

IME Fexofenadine is God Tier of antihistamines, and is the only one which works for my multiple allergies, but it's only available on prescription so worth asking the GP for that.

I find it bizarre that a GP said he didn't know what was wrong with your eyes and to see an optician. Surely you need an ophthalmologist?

VincentVanGoughandhisear · 30/05/2019 22:20

Fexofenadine is the one prescribed by the gp for me!

Overseasmom100 · 01/06/2019 09:24

Still runny eyes but not as bad...they are not sore or gritty as such just uncomfortable but I think thats because Im dabbing them with tissue all the time.

I bought some optrex hayfever drops yesterday states for runny eyes. Going to try them. If doesnt work will try suggestions above
