Is it rotten?

Got a steak from Aldi on Saturday. The use by date is the 27th but it smells off. It's in vacuum packaging could that be why it smells? Would you chance it? I don't know what to do. It looks ok

Yep that vacuum stuff often gives meat a funny smell. I try and leave it open for a while before cooking. I’m sure one of the supermarkets actually puts on it that a smell is expected from that type of packaging. But if you leave it open and it doesn’t go away I’d be a bit more suspicious.

It always smells. Give it a bit of time and sniff it again. It shouldn't smell offensive, just like raw meat.
