About four years ago I posted a thread about the fact that DH’s work wanted us to move to Singapore. I was in the middle of retraining and really enjoying it, but as a SAHM I felt I had little in the way of concrete reasons to insist on staying, while there were definite negative consequences for DH’s career if we didn’t go.
So we went, I suspended my course. After a year DH’s job changed and they said we had to stay for 3 years in total instead of two. This meant I had to withdraw from the course and I felt like all the things I had been warned about were coming true.
BUT. DH’s circumstances changed again slightly, he asked if it meant he could do his job from the UK. They said no at first, but then almost exactly a year ago today, they offered us the chance to come back early. It was a crazy quick turn around. We were back in the UK 8 weeks later.
My university let me back on to my degree. I’ve just finished the third year (of four). It’s been hard getting back into it, but I’ve just had exams and I think think they’ve gone well.
AND. I’ve just found out today that I have got a job. A lower level than what I will eventually qualify as, but it’s directly related and will be hugely helpful in getting a job when I qualify.
I felt utterly adrift in Singapore. My life is so completely back on track I can’t believe it.
I have a job! After 11 years as a SAHM someone actually wants to employ me
