Apart from wine Blush, I probably spend the most money on ground coffee, £3.50 a pack & I easily get through three packs a week, on my own.

Redpostbox · 20/05/2019 23:26

Anything gluten free for my child who has Coeliac disease. It's all about 3-4 times the price of the muggle equivalent.

Pasithea · 20/05/2019 23:36

Fruit
Cheeses
Honey.
Hotel chocolat

Wheresmrlion · 20/05/2019 23:36

Berries, Yorkshire tea bags, free range chicken, nice M&S bacon and ham.

And yes, collective suckie yogurts, I went back to pots as they’re so expensive but soon remembered what a mess my toddler enjoys making with a spoon at the moment so we went back to the suckies this week. I do have plastic waste and budget guilt about it though!

freshasthebrightbluesky · 20/05/2019 23:52

stopdropandroll
...the no bull quarter pounders, pulled pork and tofu burgers were £1 last week / if they still are you should stock up!

Thanks for the tip, I'll have a look when I go on Saturday ☑

Oliversmumsarmy
We don't get them every week but those vivera fake steak things
We love those. We do them with chunky chips, mushrooms and vegetables

We usually have them as a "beef" stroganoff served with rice but we sometimes make steak & chips with a creamy mushroom sauce. I'm a bit funny with chips though because I don't like them too thin but neither do I like them so thick that they're not cooked in the middle!

Leg of lamb for Sunday lunch and wine

BlackPrism · 20/05/2019 23:54

@BuzzShitbagBobbly I moved over to thighs for a few months and they are juice, but we kept finding more and more gristle, tubes etc and we just got the ick about them

calpoppincalpol · 21/05/2019 00:02

riverislands · 21/05/2019 00:05

Fish.

BlackPrism · 21/05/2019 00:07

@LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett could I have some sources for your info? Lice?!Envy

BlackPrism · 21/05/2019 00:09

@calpoppincalpol prescriptions for bread? You're barmy

Featherstep · 21/05/2019 00:40

Coffee beans for DH - usually £4 a bag
DS age 3, picky eater really bumps up my bill - £3 granola, raspberries, watermelon, cheese, yogurts. Also, nappies but to be fair Sainsbury's ones are reasonably priced.
DH loves Lurpak but I just get Sainsbury's butter.

My uncle has had Coeliac's disease since the early 90s. Back then the only way he could get gluten free bread was on prescription. Thanks to the fashion for gluten free food that has transformed over the last 20 years and the offerings in the supermarket are much better than the NHS choices now.

Phillipa12 · 21/05/2019 06:14

Fruit. In a week my 3 boys (all under10) will go through 2 punnets of strawberries, 2 punnets of grapes, 1 punnet of blueberries, 1 punnet of raspberries, 1 mango, 4 kiwi fruit, 6 satsumas, 18 apples, 5 plums and 18 bananas. It would be seriously cheaper to fill them up on biscuits!

Warmer · 21/05/2019 06:41

For those spending alot on fruit do you not have local markets? They tend to have larger sizes and much cheaper strawberries and grapes etc than supermarkets which I think are quite expensive. You can also get 3 cucumbers for a pound.

RiversDisguise · 21/05/2019 06:46

Meat. The 2 for £7 salmon at Tesco, or around £4 for a chicken or prawns at Sainsburys. Steak can be pricier, more like £6 or even higher for two decent fillets, so we buy it rarely (I don't find British beef delicious enough to splurge on anyway).

Cliffdonville · 21/05/2019 07:10

Loaf of sourdough for £4 and we get through 3 a week Blush

BertieBotts · 21/05/2019 07:20

We are in Germany and I think our biggest expense food wise is squash (as in the drink) - you just can't get it here but neither DS or I drink enough if we try to have just water, and I refuse to lug giant crates of fizzy fruit water. We buy the syrups made for soda stream machines and dilute them, but they are about €3 for a tiny bottle Shock I always go to Asda and buy massive bottles of squash when we visit home.

That or frozen burgers Confused they are about €6 for a bag as well.

BertieBotts · 21/05/2019 07:20

Including non food, nappies and dishwasher tablets are the worst.

BertrandRussell · 21/05/2019 07:24

Most expensive individual item is a large free range chicken from a farm shop for Sunday.
I would go into detail about the number of meals we get from it, but I fear mockery.

Motherof3feminists · 21/05/2019 07:26

@Warmer no local markets near us. There is a fruit farm from around June but it's not easy to get to and is so expensive plus the fruit is only available for about a week or two. I'd have to pay £4.50 for the bus to the fruit farm or the nearest market so it's not any cheaper.

WeCameToDance · 21/05/2019 07:56

Mrspear thanks for letting me know! I shall be stocking up tomorrow.
Just remembered strawberries! All year throughout the Autumn and Winter months ds was obsessed with strawberries. Would eat them by the punnet if I let him. I worked out that some months I was spending £53 on strawberries as they were out of season! Now they are in abundance, nicer and cheaper. Guess which fruit ds refuses to eat... He now loves watermelon.

m0therofdragons · 21/05/2019 08:01

Salmon fillets most weeks for dh and I (on the day dc have roast lunch at school).

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 21/05/2019 08:10

Prawns. Not every week, but 2-3 times a month. Problem is DD2 could easily demolish the whole 4euro box herself! And they aren't very filling.
