Long term sick (disability) then redundancy. Now had a job offer, worried about reference.

I've recently been made redundant. Prior to my redundancy I was off sick for several months with stress and depression. (caused by work, no relevance to new job) Because I have had pnd since DD was born a couple of yeas ago, the depression is a protected characteristic/disability.

As part of my redundancy I was supposed to have an agreed reference. Because I took early redundancy the reference wasn't ready with all the other paper work. This was over a month ago and I still haven't had it despite chasing it up twice.

I've now had a job offer - I start next week. New employer wants references, I've just called old workplace and it's still not done. I'm supposed to have seen it already, I want to make sure it's OK.

I'm worried (because it's an absolute shitshow) that the reference will state I've been off for months, and I'll lose the offer.

Am I right in thinking they can't include disability related sickness in the reference?

I'm about to send off the details for new employer to get the reference, am I within my rights to expect to see the reference before it gets sent to my new employer?
