What can I give a toddler who gets car sick?

It's a long journey, just turned 3. Will be doing things all day, so nothing that will make them drowsy etc.

I can't speak from experience but have read that apparently a square/sheet of brown paper under a child's top prevents it. I read about it in a book years ago and having just googled it, it's there with other 'alternative' remedies. Maybe give it a go?!

My children’s school uses to place a newspaper on the seat of the children known to suffer motion sickness. Apparently it worked but I have no idea how ?

Does the drowsiness from phenergan last long? It might be fine if it only lasts a few hours as the journey is longish anyway.

I just Googled and found people saying brown paper bag worked for their child. Weird. I wonder how. Maybe the placebo effect?

Kwells Kid travel sickness chewable tablets are from age 3 you can buy them over the counter. Gp will prescribe travel sickness medication for under 3's and antihistamine are used for travel sickness also in small children as they are suitable from 12 months. Kwells are no drowsy as well. My eldest gets travel sickness on journeys over 15 minutes it is a nigjtmare

DD suffers bless her. We do no screens - try to do music and stories, games to keep her occupied. Travel bands and OTC medication before travelling. I’m curious about paper under the seat though!

I have always used travel bands for myself and love them. They completely cure my travel sickness and sea sickness. My oldest DC has used them since about 2yo as well as they're a puker especially on long journeys. Definitely stops then feeling unwell as well.

Rescue remedy chewable sweets, a full tummy, no strong smells (ie mints) and keeping it cool/window down. I found this combination works every time for my DS (and I can vouch for this as I was terribly carsick as a child - anything over 15 minutes!!)

Put them in the front if possible. It makes a big difference.

If nothing works, use the travel potty liners to vomit in, absorbs liquid and makes disposal easier!

I thought paper under them worked pre booster seats because it meant that when the car cornered they slipped a bit in the seat and therefore tracked the motion of the car better.

Wristbands and enforced ‘look out the front’ at that age here (we still enforce ‘look out the front’ and he’s 6 but then I get car sick in the back as an adult). Are they able to tell you if they feel queasy? We then open the back windows a bit, which seems to help.

The smell of Joyrides still makes me heave...by product of having to take them for all journeys when I was small!

Someone told me about glasses that have one eye darker. They're meant to work well, if your child will keep them on!
