What radio breakfast show do you listen to?

DH needs something to wake him up slowly in the mornings - phone alarms don't cut it, and me shoving him to wake him up because his alarm is bleeping means we both start the day off in a bad mood. I was wondering whether a radio would be better for him as a gradual wake up, and something that won't drive me to distraction in seconds.

I don't really like background noise so never have music or talk radio on in the background. My (not particularly happy) childhood was set to a soundtrack of permanent radio 4 and I have a bit of an anti on constant sound in general and radio 4 in particular.

What do you listen to in the morning? Is there anyone worth seeking out or are they all going to be variants on one of my personal hells?

Greatest hits radio. Has a bit of everything. A bit like smooth, but I find that greatest hits don't keep playing the same songs over and over as much as smooth.

Planet Rock - it's mostly music. I cannot stand people wittering on inanely at any time, least of all first thing in the morning.

There must be an app for this. Googling gentle wake up app gives a few suggestions.

But I'm with you OP, if there was one thing I could uninvent it would be the snooze button. I'm almost always wide awake when the first alarm goes off and then if I don't get up then, I've 30 or 40 minutes of DP snoozing interruppted by the bloody alarm. It's like he builds the half hour snooze into his waking up routine. GRR. Just set the alarm for the time you want to get up and Get. The. Fuck. Out. Of. Bed.

We have 5 live on the iplayer alarm every morning. Works well for us

Passmethecrisps · 20/05/2019 13:06

Radio 4 is my alarm. 6 music once I am in the shower

Iwantacampervan · 20/05/2019 13:08

Radio 4 - very useful as the programmes are on set timings so I can judge when to get up e.g. after weather forecast, after business news etc.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 20/05/2019 13:30

Today programme on Radio 4, but it sounds like that's vetoed!

BearSoFair · 20/05/2019 13:35

Absolute Radio. We like the music and it seems to have a good balance of music to talking.

Badgerah · 20/05/2019 13:40

Lauren Laverne on 6 Music. She's brilliant and plays a great mix of music. -And she's loads better than annoying bloody Shaun Keaveny

Meandyouandyouandme · 20/05/2019 13:45

I second Lauren, she’s great in the mornings, but doesn't start till 7.30, so I actually wake up to 5live, love a bit of Nicky Campbell. Then put Lauren on once I’m in the kitchen.

weebarra · 20/05/2019 13:46

Chris Hawkins on 6 music, with Lauren Laverne on my way to work.

slippermaiden · 20/05/2019 13:46

Greg James on radio one. Good mix of music and chat. Makes me laugh every morning and the kids like the music.

BigusBumus · 20/05/2019 13:49

I used to listen to Absolute when Christian O'connell did it, but he left and now my boys are teens and make me listen to Dotty on Radio 1 Xtra

TheRLodger · 20/05/2019 13:51

Radio x hosted by Chris Moyles & team. Essentially the Same as his radio one show but with ads
