I have just booked to go to playa des ingles in July with DD (16)
Read Trip Advisor, looked good, in budget, etc.
Now just started planning things to do and read that its the party place of the Canaries, (staying near Yumbo) and the most visited beach strip in Europe.
Not my bag at all!

Can someone share their experience with me, tell me we can have a relaxing break after exams.
Eek!

We went last year with DC 8 and 5.

The yumbo centre is the biggest of the commercial centre and is the gay capital of Europe, I believe. We would spend a couple of hours there in the evening. All of the shops were selling stuff with Willys, which we didn't really want our children to see!! We left before the partying started.

There are lots of other commercial centres, but we only realised as we were going home.

There are lots of beaches and our hotel put on a shuttle bus to a beach which wasn't too busy.

Sorry, I can't be much help as we didn't venture too far.

The only thing I would say is avoid the Anfi resort. It's a glorified timeshare and everywhere you turn, there is someone trying to flog it too you. They will say you can use the beach, but not before they have put the hard sell on you.

We stayed in that area ar Easter and it was fine. It was a family holiday with young kids and we wanted to chill and detox - not our usually adventurous holiday. The dunes were fantastic for a wander, there's the volcano to visit etc. I'm sure you'll be fine. (Although the willies next to the toys in the yumbo were odd ShockConfusedBlushGrin.)

We've stayed there, but not by the Yumbo centre. We avoid that place LOL.
We were close to the beach in a nice hotel. Did days out from there. The Dolphin watching boat trip, a day at the water park, a day where we toured the Island, it took you up to the very tops, and included lunch a small village. Lots of stops and info on that one (it was run by Tui). One year we did market day in Mogan. We went to Amadores beach, Shopping in Melonares, and to the Sand dunes and the light house.

I stayed there a few years ago, up the coast a little from playa des ingles at San Agustin (which is a bit crap but hotel was ok) that said the beach was great for boogie boarding. We got the bus to maspalomas a few times, was nice there. Was a nice enough holiday, not sure I’d rush back but wouldn’t be alarmed for someone if they told me they were going there in the way I would for someone staying at magaluf. Weather will be nice, beaches are nice and the craziness is optional.

Thanks all, encouraged.
Was a very cheap deal (less than £700 including flights, transfers) and mainly going for the weather...
Will visit places Mumsnetters have recommended here.
