School Reunion: DS1

Ds1 (14) went to a school reunion yesterday.

He was ignored and he says, "treated as in irrelevance." One boy in particular ignored him and fist bumped everyone else. This boy used to be a good friend but is no longer.

He's so very low about it all.

He says he is socially awkward. No friends at his current school. I'm sure he has one or two but he weekly boards so it's hard for me gauge.

What can I do to help him? What can he do to help him? I don't want him to retreat further into himself.

I don't want him to feel isolated and lonely.

Any advice would be so appreciated.

What!!!! He's not even left school yet.

It's tricky to help nurture friendships as he boards, but perhaps you could invite another pupil for the weekend / during the holidays?

Prep school reunion. They're doing this now for some reason.

Anyway, it's highlighted to ds1 that he feels totally inadequate socially.

Sorry to hear. It's so upsetting if your child struggles to make friends, isn't it?

Yes really upsetting.

I guess there's not an awful lot I can do to help apart from listen.
