West Coast Scotland. Loved it from afar, then we moved here.

The hills above the Ladybower reservoir in the Peak District provided glorious views and it was so peaceful. I adore the Peak District.

Applecross. Seven years ago me and some friends were driving up from Glasgow for another friend’s wedding. When we reached the highlands proper there was an audible intake of breath in the car. We were such a classic bunch of city kids who had never seen what our country had to offer.

Loyaultemelie · 19/05/2019 09:21

The North Coast (NI)

Tongue, Scotland

The Yorkshire Dales, the view from the top of Middleham castle always lifts my spirits.

Mull

stillworkingitout · 19/05/2019 09:24

Pretty much all of west Cornwall, particularly Carbis Bay and Porthcurno beaches. DH and the kids love Porthmeor but I think the sand is too big and sticky. Porthcurno is one of my favourites for dramatic scenery. Sennen for skidding down the dunes to the beach. Kynance (though not strictly west Cornwall).

The Isles of Scilly are out of this world. Worth the trip though I’ve only been once as a teen.

Durdle Door/ Lulworth/ Kimmeridge/ Studland in Dorset.

After my failure to post pictures on my phone last night... Forest of Dean on a freezing January morning

Langrish · 19/05/2019 09:37

The A500 drive up the Northwest Coast of Scotland, ending in the most spectacular mountain road heading to Applecross. There’s nowhere else like it.

Langrish · 19/05/2019 09:38

Second: St. Ives/Carbis Bay

buttery81 · 19/05/2019 09:43

Am I the only person who wasn’t especially keen on Holkham? For me it’s just too flat and too vast. There were also too many crowds walking from the car parking area to the beach for my liking. Give me Barafundle Bay (stunning photo shared by another poster above) any day though!

SpacePlusTime · 19/05/2019 09:44

Great thread! We’re so lucky in Britain, so many amazing places.

So much of West Cornwall I love, and west Scotland.

WatchingTheWheels85 · 19/05/2019 09:47

Bosherston lily ponds are beautiful.

Langrish · 19/05/2019 09:48

No I don’t like flat and vast either, something a bit unnerving about it.

LittleAndOften · 19/05/2019 09:49

The Gower
Pembrokeshire, esp the coast. So wild and stunning.

Langrish · 19/05/2019 09:50

Scottish family (MacDonalds) going back countless generations, no idealism here.

Doesn’t stop the landscape being spectacular though.

Langrish · 19/05/2019 09:52

Sorry that was in reply to rareappearance

boxlikeamarchhare · 19/05/2019 10:32

I like Holkham, lived very close to it for a decade and went most days, but it doesn’t make my list either Langrish.

I moved back to my native North Yorkshire and much prefer the northern coast. A lot of these northern places are part of my daily life, I drive through Middleham, past Fountains Abbey and Brimham Rocks most days.

My favourite spot in the world is a bench I could walk to from home as a kid in upper Wharfedale, really close to Malham Tarn.

Nothing beats the Scottish coast for me though, this place in particular.

RuffleCrow · 19/05/2019 10:39

For me the vast, almost lunar flatness is the whole appeal of Holkham! Pleasantly disorienting Grin

TheRedBarrows · 19/05/2019 10:42

Bamburgh : coast and inland
Wharfedale
The Langdales
Borrowdale and Honister over to Buttermere and Crummock Water
The N Norfolk Coast; Scolt Head to West Runton
Lyme Regis and nearby Beer
Beachy Head / Birling Gap / Seven Sisters/ Cuckmere Haven

ENormaSnob · 19/05/2019 12:53

Kynance cove.

Delatron · 19/05/2019 13:01

The Yorkshire Dales are just stunning. Take your breath away scenery.

IAmNotPatientOrPregnant · 19/05/2019 13:03

Another poster mentioned the Forest of Dean. I might be being a bit biased as I live here.

But heres a couple of photos from around my area to show you how beautiful it is.

We see boat loads of deer and boar just roaming around in the woods.
If you ever do visit feel free to message me for some places to visit for the best views, things to do, natural to see and places to eat. Wild boar sausage rolls are spot on here!

Waves merrily to IAmNotPatientOrPregnant

I live on the edge of FoD, I recognise the river and the road, could almost stand in the exact spot those pictures were taken (well, maybe not the road) Grin

I usally post lots of pictures as most people don't seem to know it exists... and then I feel guilty, cos maybe too many tourists will wreck it! But it defintitely deserves to be better known.
