What does your baby’s breath smell like?

FTM...my baby’s breath smells sweet. 5 months, EBF. Also had a three nights of saturated nappies, flooded with wee, last week. Might it be diabetes? Everything I’ve googled says ‘ketone’ odour on breath but I haven’t the slightest what that means Confused

Your boob milk is sweet so their breath will be too. Ketones don’t smell sweet.

crosspelican · 17/05/2019 19:45

Mine had sweet breath too. I loved it so much!

IamChipmunk · 17/05/2019 19:50

Sweet milky breath here too.
Nearly cried when weaning at 6m and I realised the lovely milky smell was gone and it smelt of yoghurt or whatever!

Yeah, sweet breath in an EBF baby is quite normal.

Ketones smell like pear drops

Step away from google, you sound overly anxious.

Thatsnotmyotter · 17/05/2019 20:04

My little boy used to smell like apricots until weaning. Still does sometimes if he’s had a big milk feed.

GeriAtric · 17/05/2019 20:17

I used to love breathing in my baby's sweet milky breath.

Chancewouldbeafinethlng · 17/05/2019 20:18

Sounds normal to me. I used to love that sweet milky smell.

jacksprattt · 17/05/2019 20:21

My 9mo smells like Philadelphia.

Ahh I loved smelling my babies’ breath. I particularly loved it when they’d just woken up.

They’re older and a bit stinkier now.

TheRealHousewifeofCheshire · 17/05/2019 20:25

Sweet milky cheesy breath

tappitytaptap · 17/05/2019 20:27

BF 7 month old (so also on solids), sweet. Love the smell of it Blush

Yes I have a child on the ketogenic diet for epilepsy and it smells quite sweet and of pear drops when ketones are high.

MumbleLumble · 17/05/2019 20:35

Aw you've just brought back lovely memories of when my kids were babies. I used to love smelling their sweet ebf breath! It's totally normal.

nespressowoo · 17/05/2019 20:36

Oh it is the best smell ever. My DS also had it. Enjoy, OP ❤️

thisonebreath · 17/05/2019 20:44

Little puffs of spun sugar. 💖

HumpHumpWhale · 17/05/2019 20:48

I'd forgotten this, but I used to call him "rice pudding breath" because that's what it smelled like.

thornyhousewife · 17/05/2019 20:49

Oh wow I'd totally forgotten this and am now broody.

Your baby smells completely normal and isn't diabetic, please don't worry.

Enjoy!

duckme · 17/05/2019 20:59

Oh god, the new born milk breath! I just couldn't get enough of it. Like a previous poster, I was so sad when we started weaning because that smell was gone.
I've heard that ketones smell like pear drops?

Emilyrose0 · 17/05/2019 21:11

Yes milky sweet rice pudding, that’s it, so sweet anlovely. Couldn’t believe that would mean diabetes, what a relief Smile

Mine are 4 and 2 now but I can remember that lovely sweet milky baby breath as clear as if it was just this evening 😍

BlackPrism · 17/05/2019 21:22

You'll know ketones - they're strong, musky. You can tell it's wrong.

BlackPrism · 17/05/2019 21:23

Omg yes! Like strong pear drops!
