Do you see people in uniform or just the uniform? If you're in uniform do people recognise you?

I will open by saying that I have very poor facial recognition, and have to have met someone at least 20 or 30 times before I can recognise them at all. My cousin's husband is in the Gardai and I do know him to see because I have recognised him both at places that I have expected to see him (like family gatherings) and at places that I haven't (like on the school run) in his regular clothes. But I've seen him in his uniform at least three times in the past few years and have never recognised him until he has waved at me or said 'hi'. This morning he was crossing a road and the traffic was stationary in front of me so I left a space for him to cross, so he was right in front of my bonnet and I didn't recognise him until he mouthed 'Hi myname'. To be fair, as far as I know the station that he was crossing to isn't his regular station, unless he's moved recently, so I had no expectation of seeing him.

Am I weird?

I was a uniformed police officer. People just seem to see the uniform. I’m usually called policeman lady!
I remember my toddler son waving to the nice policeman lady once when in town. I’m your bloody mum, lol!

No, I'm exactly the same to some extent. I have to explain it to people from the off after many moans about me ignoring them/hacky looks when they've seen me out etc. I do recognise them in places I usually see them though. So yours sounds more severe. Takes ages to link a name up to a face annoyingly though.

Well, clearly it's a thing if your own son didn't recognise you Finfintytint. Grin

Nope. If I didn’t have my sports kit (uniform) on the kids never used to recognise me Biscuit

I do the opposite, I work in hospitals and I don’t recognise people out of them and out of uniform!

Definitely a thing. Ive done presentations at Brownie, youth groups , etc and not many have made the connection that I’m the same one at your parents ‘ evenings, school fetes, supermarket encounters, etc.
