Recieved news today that my partner's job is taking us to Hereford.
Does anyone live/used to live there & have experiences of it? Love to hear some thoughts on what it is like!

Yes me, lived there for 8 years until this year. What would you like to know?

Bebe03 · 16/05/2019 19:11

Oh thank you for your reply.

Am hoping to commute to Gloucster doesn't seem unacheivable on the map but unsure of traffic in the area? We would be close to the hospital in Hereford.

How are the restaurants and activities? We really enjoy the outdoors but do enjoy eating out and doing some outings in the evening so am hoping it has a good balance...

Commute would be possible by car, but might take a while. Don't live south of the river as the traffic is awful, especially when it rains.

Shopping is OK, not great. Quite a few good places to eat. And the countryside is beautiful!

Been a long time since I lived there but yes do not live south of the river it floods over the roundabout and the swimming pool

The commute between Hereford and Gloucester may not be that long in miles (about 30 depending on start and finish points) but it's not an easy commute, factor in traffic as well and it'll take you a good hour each way and would be horrible in bad weather. I speak as someone who commutes from the Gloucester area to outside Bristol which can be congested.

Hereford is quite nice though Smile

Thank you for the insider tips! It does look beautiful but the jobs are limited, I'm in the NHS.

The commute is longer than I thought I may have to get job hunting!

I'm going to visit soon to have a good look around hopefully to get a better feel of the area. Any tips on nice areas close to the hospital there?

It doesn't flood on the roundabout any more. It's got to be about 15 years since that happened and flood defences were installed. It does flood on the playing field but it's fine to walk round.

If you are commuting to Gloucester, south side would actually be better. Head to Ross and then on to Gloucester.

Yes traffic is bad, but it's bad all over.

The commute to central Gloucester will be about 45 min to an hour if peak traffic. Hereford has some good shopping and eateries since the redevelopment of the Old Market.

Some nice housing stock and good value for money. I like the Forest of Dean side of the city and villages like Sutton st Nicolas. Lots of good pubs and plenty of chain stores although they are not huge. Schools are very mixed- some awful and some very good. Beautiful countryside and friendly people.
