5 weeks 3 days and they want another ultrasound

Hey, hoping to hear others experience and hopefully reassurance!

Tested positive last Tuesday then had some spotting for a week mainly when wiping and it was dark brown.

Was booked in at EPU for an ultrasound which happened today and they saw a sac and said they couldn’t see much else which was normal and they wanted to do some bloods today and again Friday.

I just rang for my blood results today and they said my HCG is 3000 which was a little lower than they expected for 5 weeks 3 days and they want to do another scan Friday as well as more bloods.

Now I’m really worrying on why they need to do another scan so early. Will they notice anything different? What is normal for hcg?! Feel like it’s 1 step forward then 2 steps back x

Heartbeat. I’d say that’s what they hope to see at 6 weeks 3 days that was too early for last time.

I can only assume you’re private patient because most places wouldn’t be bothering checking you again, maybe unless you had bleeding (even then they try to avoid), until you are getting your 12 week scan.

Nope I’m with the NHS got referred by my GP last week cos of spotting. I’m only 5 weeks 3 days and 2 days later I thought would still be too soon for a heart beat? It’s non stop worry since finding out!

Oh I thought you were 5.3 last Friday when first scanned.

Bloods 48hrs apart is standard to look for an increase in HCG. They will be more bothered about how much it has risen than the absolute numbers. I don't think 3000 is particularly low at 5 weeks, but it's been a while since those numbers were readily in my mind.
Not sure about the rescan - a week 9r 2 apart was my experience.

Good luck!

They need to check if your HCG is doubling or not. Also they'll repeat the scan if they struggled to get a decent image.

It's normal where there are signs of concern, even in the NHS.

Hope it goes well.

Thank you! I’ve looked online and it’s looking between 18 to 7000 odd for hcg levels at 5 weeks. Fingers crossed everything is processing normally 🤞🏼
