Going from UK school to Australian one

Not a for a few years yet but trying to gauge a general idea of what it will be like and decide if it's the best plan, as I need yk start saving now, retraining etc.

From what I've read the school year runs from Jan/Feb-Dec and the cut of is July 31 to which school year you'll be in.

My little lady was born on 26th August and will already be in school by the time (if) we make the move as she is born before the cut off here in the UK she will start in the September when she is only just 4. In Australia she just misses the cut off so if we were there before she started school she would start in the Jan after turning 5 so just over a year later.

Will she be held back a year? Am I right in thinking they are at school a year less in Australia? We do Year R-13 and they do Kindergarten-Yr 12?

Also is the curriculum much different?

I hope I'm making sense and posted in the correct place!

If its a few years off i would in no way be worrying about school years/age curriculum now.

Schools are much less anal in Oz than Uk about lots of things like age/grade. When you are actually in the months leading up to going just get in touch with prospective schools to talk about what your child is learning at school in uk and they will advise best grade to put her in. Will there be gaps in things, probably, but you get that moving schools in the same country depending on when in the year they teach various things.

If you were certain you were going to make the move, you could just not send your daughter to school here, as in England children don't actually have to start until the term they turn five, I think?

Would that be a possibility? So she wouldn't start school only to be pulled out again a few months later?

@hatethinkingupnamechanges yes I can essentially defer her by year, just not sure what year we'd be going.

I appreciate it's a long way off but wanted a clear picture in my head of what the move would entail, school wise before I make a certain decision as I want to start 'planning' now.
