Not a TAAT (okay, maybe a littttlllee bit...)

Can I ask you to share your engagement stories?

I'm not engaged yet, so I have nothing to share, but reading about engagement stories has made me feel all warm and fluffy inside.

So if you wouldn't mind making a cynical old maid a little bit happier today, please tell.

We had been to a spa all day and got back to the hotel. I lay on the bed as it’s surprisingly tiring relaxing all day! A fly kept buzzing in and out of the velux windows and DH was trying to swat it away. After a few minutes, he got down and said ‘i’ve Got a card trick for you’ and spread some cards out. I pulled one and he said ‘it’s on the window’ I looked and it said ‘to me you are perfect, will you marry me?’

I turned round and he was down on one knee with a goofy grin and a ring 😚

He left a note on the Christmas tree and went to collect his parents. I saw it, responded and left him a note in the Christmas tree.

Oooo I've gone all fluffy again.

Thank you both for sharing. Makes a change from some of the horrific stuff I've had to read today!

We went for a coffee the weekend of my birthday and he asked what I would like as a present(he's always doing this when I'm not in the humour to shop "Do you want to get something nice?") I wiggled my finger at him and said "a nice ring" expecting him to slag me off as usual with "aren't I your diamond in the rough?/I'll wring your neck if you like/why would I ring you, I'm standing right here?!" Instead he took me by the hand a walked me over to the jeweler's and told me to choose whatever I would like. Not your typical proposal, but perfect for a pair of messer's who really don't mind either way! It makes me smile every time I think of how sweet he was, and every so often he looks over with a smile and say's I was his perfect choice.

We were in Las Vegas and he proposed at a bar called Skyfall 64 floors up overlooking the strip. It's our favourite city we have been 6 times and it was just perfect.

We were in Mauritius. On the beach. I still have a piece of the palm tree we were under 20 years ago!

We had already discussed it and both knew it was what we wanted. We were ttc and both knew we wanted to be married before the baby was born. I'd found out I was pregnant just before Christmas.
Anyway it was after new year and we'd actually been having a minor row earlier in the evening. Then we'd sorted it out and were listening to music in the early hours of the morning. We were at home just the 2 of us. Then he just got down on one knee and said "will you marry me"?
It was perfect, exactly what I wanted. I'd of hated being out in a public place or even worse having family and friends there. I'm glad it was a private moment just the 2 of us. No big speech or fuss. Just the simple question.

It was about 10 days before my 30th birthday. We were going away over my birthday so he made fajitas for tea and we ate at the dining table (rare for us) and then I opened my presents. When I'd finished he said I've got something else for you but it's not a birthday present. He pulled the ring out of his pocket, got down on one knee and proposed. I'd given up on him ever proposing so it was a lovely surprise. When people on TV or in films get engaged we always say that they're not doing it right because there's no fajitas!

6 months ago on my birthday got surprised by a trip to Paris that day.. Dinner in a Michelin star restaurant over looking the Eiffel Tower - Got down on one new on the balcony outside! Wedding booked for next year :D

LizzieSiddal · 15/05/2019 15:44

We’d only met 9 weeks before when we decided we wanted to get married. The next day we had a chat and both knew we were sure so we went shopping and bought a ring.Grin we got married 5 months later.

So no big proposal but 30 years later we’re still very much in love. We remind ourselves often about how lucky we were that we are both well suited and actually still liked each other when we’d got to know each other properly!

The day we got the keys to our house. We had said we'd order a pizza in and have a celebratory cider. We had no furniture there as we werent staying the night. I was on the floor opening the cider and sorting the pizza, (now dh) went to get some kitchen roll. I was chattering away saying it wasn't that comfy on the floor and we should have brought the camping chairs. Turned around to see him kneeling behind me holding the ring box out. I burst into tears and made him say the words and then said yes about 8 times, kissed him and carried on crying. Couldn't eat the pizza after, I was too excited.

Aw, that's made me well up happy years thinking of that. We've had a rough few months so it's really nice to remember that :)

SmellNO · 15/05/2019 20:56

Oh goodness. Where do I find me one of these men?

My ex 'proposed' to me when he found out I was pregnant. I say proposed, he said 'guess we should get married then?'
Needless to say I didn't even dignify it with an answer. He turned out to be an abusive prick anyway!

We were in Florence for a weekend break had been together 10 years since age 16. We met on Valentine’s Day and as we were away on valentines he proposed that day in a little bar after a day of sightseeing. He had the ring and got down on one knee whilst I was sipping a huge G & T! He had thought about proposing at one of the sights but then thought it would be better just us. I wasn’t expecting it even though it was a special date for us.

Nishky · 15/05/2019 22:28

I was very drunk and said ‘are you going to marry me then or what’

mynameisMrG · 15/05/2019 22:35

On holiday in Rome we were the only two people in a restaurant and he got down on one knee with a ring.
Turns out he’d been carrying around all week looking for the perfect place but kept get nervous and chickening out 😊

tac10 · 15/05/2019 23:03

We lived in Germany at the time and had gone to Disneyland Paris for my birthday...went into Paris to meet up with friends who lived/worked there for drinks/dinner but did some sightseeing beforehand and went up to the top of the Eiffel Tower where he proposed while we were looking at the view of Paris!!! 😊

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 15/05/2019 23:11

He was calling the bingo in the club I worked in part time, and asked me over the mic. I was stunned. We had pretended to be married the night before as a bit of a joke when we were out and this bloke wouldn't leave me alone, but I didn't think he would propose so publicly (or so quickly). He wasn't trying to be an arsehole or controlling or anything, he was just excited and spontaneous, and thought I would find it funny. I did. Although it taught me to never dare him to do anything outrageous!

We got a round of applause and neither of us paid for a drink that night...
