I have an interview tomorrow. It's after I finish work. Do I tell my manager beforehand I am going? Or wait until if they offer me the job. I don't want her finding out via being asked for a reference. But do references come before a job offer?

You should never tell your current employer about interviews in my opinion.

If you don't get the job, they can then treat you differently as they know you're not loyal to firm.

You should only inform them when you have a written offer/contract from new employer.

References come after x

Ok. So if (fingers crossed) I got a job offer. I would then say to manager? I would have time inbetween them then seeking the reference. It's for NHS
