Got a song stuck in my head. How can I stop it?

Lewis capaldi - someone you loved. I actually love this song but snippets of it have been playing over in my head since I woke up this morning.

I don't want to hate the song, but it's driving me mad!

Does anyone know how I can stop it ?

Sing happy birthday a few times

implantsandaDyson · 14/05/2019 21:45

Listen to the whole song from start to finish.

acedeuce · 14/05/2019 21:47

@DaanSaaf not sure if you were being serious but I'll try it anyway.

@implantsandaDyson I tried that earlier but it didn't help.

I read somewhere* recently that singing the national anthem is the best way to rid yourself of an ear worm. It works for me, even though I’m staunchly anti-royalist. Grin

You have to sing the whole song accurately all the way through.

Reasonstobeearful · 14/05/2019 22:00

You need to listen to something else that's catchy and will drive it out. Try this:

SomethingOnce · 14/05/2019 22:01

I heard Summer Holiday by Cliff can dislodge even the most persistent earworm.

IHeartKingThistle · 14/05/2019 22:01

We use Macho Man in our house. Annoying enough to oust the ear worm but not catchy enough to take its place. Perfect.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 14/05/2019 22:04

We invoke the Achy Breaky Protocol. Sing something you’d be embarrassed to let others hear.

SomethingOnce · 14/05/2019 22:07

I have a nuclear option but only I know the code Grin

Ok so I've sang happy birthday and the national anthem the best I could.... and now it's changed to George Ezra - shotgun going over and over Angry

Oh my gosh, same here! For me it's the second part of the chorus, over and over again!

It's occasionally replaced with the chorus of "dancing with a stranger " Confused

FiremanKing · 14/05/2019 22:26

Singalong to this instead

It’s a great tune to accompany doing the housework.

SpoonBlender · 14/05/2019 22:38

I always use "Can't get you out of my head" by Kylie as an earworm cleanser. It's catchy and repetitive and importantly the problem reminds me of the song name! Otherwise I'd be stuck on the earworm song with no escape, I can't think of a second tune while I've got one going.

wincarwoo · 14/05/2019 22:44

Karma kameleon is legendary for getting rid of any ear worm

Stravapalava · 14/05/2019 23:31

Sing another one.

Baby shark doo doo doo doo doo doo doo

You're welcome.

Squiff70 · 15/05/2019 00:00

Listen to The Chicken Song by Spitting Image. Somebody You Loved by Lewis Capaldi is a beautiful song but very sad. It's also a bitch of an earworm. That and Sam Smith/Normarni's Dancing with a Stranger.

If The Chicken Song doesn't cure you, nothing will.

Apparently chewing gum uses the same muscles

Squiff70 · 15/05/2019 00:05

Also, try this little fucker

PickAChew · 15/05/2019 00:12

You need to replace them with non earwormy tunes. Dh often changes the music playing at the end of a long family journey, if it seems like we're all going to end up lumbered with something annoying.

You need to get yourself one of those puzzle books and do an anagram, or sudoko - works for me!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. It's still there this morning Angry but I will give some of your ideas a go.
