What is this song? Losing my mind ...

Male singer, slow grunge-y emo type balland, yearning vocals, slow build, melodic, quite up and down in the tones. Similar to Radiohead's Talk Show Host but less rock-y.
"I want to be ... la la la la la la" or similar vocals in the hook.
It may have been used in a recent TV programme or trailer, it's kind of spooky. Please can you help?!

Somebody Else's Song by Lifehouse?

Member · 15/05/2019 23:03

Wishes - I Want to be Alone?

peachgreen · 16/05/2019 08:17

It also sounds just like She's So Heavy... could it be that?

No, sorry.
Lifehouse & Wishes both really similar to the one I'm stuck in though!

Don’t Want to be Alone - Slackers?

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 16/05/2019 15:05

It's not Total Slacker Sad but thanks.
I haven't made it up in a dream I swear!
Although when PP suggested it might be a woman singer I nearly spat out my coffee. Because they might be right! Blush
90% sure it's a man though.

I’ve searched but can’t think of anything.

Meanwhile here is a top grunge tune as an aside

ThatCurlyGirl · 16/05/2019 15:20

Not Carolina Drama by The Raconteurs? SUCH A GOOD SONG.

Around 4.50 la las starts but if you like a storytelling song start from the beginning it's a corker!!!

Has the kind of spooky mood you mentioned.

I hope the OP returns and says she now remembers there's clicks in it and it turns out to be the Addams family theme song crosses fingers

qwertyskirty · 16/05/2019 20:52

@ThatCurlyGirl So funny! I am over invested in this thread. Praying for a satisfactory, or at least funny, conclusion.

Drivenmad80 · 16/05/2019 20:58

Devils playground by the rigs is in a lot AHS?? X

JaneJeffer · 16/05/2019 22:34

it might be a woman singer aargh! The first song I thought of was a woman but then I realised you said a man. Is it Mazzy Star - Fade Into You?

resisterpersister · 16/05/2019 23:25

Vanellope please hum it into this for us: www.speakpipe.com/voice-recorder

ThatCurlyGirl · 17/05/2019 09:59

@Quartz2208 I am SO over invested it's ridiculous. Part of my routine now...

Wake up
Check thread
Sigh that song is not revealed yet
Make tea
Get on with life

Repeat daily

Another over invested in this thread!

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 17/05/2019 11:59

Thank you lovely people for making me feel less alone in this misery.
It's none of the above, sorry.
The humming apps give different results each time, surprisingly often italian ballads though. Confused
Perhaps I just need to listen to some pop radio station all day long, any suggestions there? I really don't think the song is very old (ie no older than 10 years) based on the Sia-like production values as I recall.
I don't know much about music but more than eny of my mates, hence pointless to ask anyone irl. I'm really grateful for your diligence, knowledge and sympathy here! I'll investigate if I can record myself humming and post my pituful attempt here.
Flowers and Wine to all of you lovely people.

Being over literal due to your la la la comment but it isn't sam smith and naughty boy's La La La by any chance?

redwoodmazza · 17/05/2019 12:50

Mumford & Sons - I Will Wait?

[I know it's not but love this and thought it deserved an airing!!! LOL]

PuppyMonkey · 17/05/2019 12:51

Before the internet, I once went into a record shop and hummed an ear worm I had stuck in my head to the guy behind the counter - he immediately got it. Them were the days.Grin

Definitely need to record the hum and post it here, OP.

resisterpersister · 17/05/2019 12:52

The humming apps give different results each time

Noooo, the humming thingy I linked is for us! Grin

If you record your voice, you can then link to it on this thread, and we'll be able to hear you. You can do it easily using this: www.speakpipe.com/voice-recorder

The wisdom of MN will (I hope) give the humming apps a run for their money!

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 17/05/2019 13:37

OK I will! Just need to get back in the groove of it to do a fair hum. I've sort of lost the notes now, keep slipping into Talk Show Host, alt the opening lines of The Voice Within (Aguilera).

OP posts:
VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 17/05/2019 13:40

Shit shit shit now I keep slipping into Turn by Travis. Not the one by the way.

OP posts:
VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 17/05/2019 13:43

Can't hum now, sorry, gone totally blank, dammit. Keeping the SpeakPipe tab open though for when it comes over me again.

"Adored?
I want to be adored by The Stone Roses?"

I know this was super early but was it definitely not this? I know bits of it were used a fair bit in the Hotel season of AHS.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 17/05/2019 13:52

It's not Stone Roses, sorry, the sound is more 'modern'.
Have been watching AHS season 6, 7 & 8 recently.
Just thinking what else ... my DCs dance class teacher plays them some Billie Ellish atm so I've listened through her tracks too but no luck.
The closest I've come sound-wise (but not melody wise) is Moto Boy "Keep your Darkness Secret" and I've listened to all his tracks to try and find my earworm - to no avail.
