WhatsApp hack - updating the app

I have a very basic question.

Beeb reporting that patch has been issued and users should all update the a.

Question is - how? I saw there was a red notification icon on the settings' icon within the app, so I looked in there but couldn't see anything there, looked in other parts of the app. And also in the phone settings, nothing apparently there.

The red notification has disappeared btw.

Does this mean it will have automatically updated?

Or is there something else I need to do? If there is, can somebody give idiot-proof instructions on what that is?

The patch was pushed out on Friday, so it has possibly updated already. Best way to check is to go to your app store and check to see which of your installed apps need updating.

I'm assuming you have Android because i have no idea how to update an iPhone.

You need to go to the play store, into the my apps section and update from there.

This also assumes you have automatic updates turned off, but it's the place to look to find out

I found a pending update erismom - in a place you suggested, twhich was one I knew but which simply didn't come to mind! Thank you.

There was one waiting which was the mildly incomprehensible 'You can now see stickers in full size when you long press a notification"

Which doesn't sound like a security patch to me!

The version is 2.19.51 - hope that is a secure version, not that I think there's anything in my life worth targeting (at the moment, at least)
