Can I relax about not catching sickness bug yet?!

DS (5) started with a stomach bug on Friday evening. He is much better today thankfully but I'm still worrying about me, DH and other DS being struck down. How long do you reckon I should wait until breathing a sigh of relief?!

Weds but it's looking positive!

I'd usually guess around a week. I teach reception so we have bugs going around once or twice a year and generally it takes a week or so for it to totally decimate the class and work it's way through while I spray the classroom with dettol and pray to all the gods.

I always looked at 48 hours clear as being cautiously optimistic and 5 days as feeling pretty safe.
Fingers crossed for you!

You might be OK! Good luck.

Mmmm with this recent bug I thought I'd dodged a bullet.
DD sick Monday evening
Next DD on Friday
DH the next Tuesday
Me the Wednesday
So it was a long burner.

I must havea strong immune system. Yrs ago both my DDs and DH got the vomiting bug and I was spared.

Then 4 yrs ago all 3 kids and DH got itbut not me. That was the worst ever.

BIL sick visiting us and started on the Sunday night. He was good enough to leave the following morning.

Then on the Tuesday DS threw up in the car on the was to the dhoos after school. Git a call on the way home without the said shopping from DD2 saying she was sick. Later that evening DD1 started. Following morning DH was sick. I had no choice but to call in sick myself to look after them, and in anticipation of me coming down with it.
They each had a bell and when they threw up they rang it😂 that works well in our house.
But i never got sick,

I’m another who thought I had dodged a bullet but caught it exactly a week later after DD

Was dreadful :( good luck op!

Scion457 · 14/05/2019 17:02

DH started with a sickness bug exactly 7 days after DS has it so don’t celebrate just yet. I didn’t catch it though. Fingers crossed for you!

ASnowballsChance · 14/05/2019 17:06

Don't worry - no celebrating until at least the weekend! I'm on constant red alert for it, I'm so exhausted. DS who wasn't ill is due to start a course of antibiotics, I'm worried to give him them in case he gets ill and can't keep them down!

Just a quick story to reassure, in living memory, my family never had a bug that struck down the whole house. It was always just an isolated incident with one member of the family (normally my brother!). My parents weren’t even particularly bothered about bleaching everything, and we only had one bathroom. It’s not inevitable.
