Pretty sure my baby has hayfever

I say baby but he is 18 months and very sad and clingy :(

His persistent dry cough is back this morning and he’s had a cold for about a fortnight. The first year of his life he had a constant cough and cold so hard to tell what cause was. Colds always go to his chest and he’s had 2 inhalers before and been hospitalised once - only one night - striding breath, sucking in of ribs etc when breathing. Anyway. Suddenly occurred to me, maybe his problem is pollen?? Is this something I need to go to the GP for or just crack on managing it myself? Wondering if there’s an actual diagnosis per se or just one of those vague things?

I’ve had a quick google - don’t dry clothes outside, change clothes after being outside, don’t keep fresh flowers in the house... does this sound along the right tack?

Thanks!

Give him pirtion. If it doesn't help with the symptoms then it's not hay fever.

Currently doing a process of elimination for my eldest.

My dd was like this a bit as a baby. I went to the drs a bunch of times before she was one because of persistent coughs. Once she was one I bought some piriton and tried giving her a dose the next time she was coughing a lot. It helped a lot. Now she’s six and we have to regularly give piriton and inhalers to control her symptoms.
Try piriton and see if there’s any difference.

Thanks both! Should have mentioned, I gave him piriton just before I posted. He’d just got up from his nap and was very sad, he perked up and seemed better afterwards but hard to know if he would have done anyway! Will pay closer attention next time I give it.

I took my ds to the docs around the same age with a ‘cold’ he couldn’t shake off. Yep, it was hay fever. Blush
Fortunately he doesn’t suffer with a bad chest and doesn’t have asthma.

He’s been on cetrizine (probably a sp) on prescription since.

I also do all the things you mentioned, except for flowers in the house, they don’t seem to bother him. Don’t open his bedroom window in summer. And shut all doors and windows if I’m mowing the grass. We also have an air purifier for his Bedroom.
