Just us then, I was smothered in them after only five minutes outside.

Same here (north yorks).

IndigoSpritz · 13/05/2019 16:59

The buggers are everywhere (Leeds). I don't ever remember there being this many.

SingingSands · 13/05/2019 17:13

I'm in Leeds too. The place is filled with them. I'm about to cycle home, I'll be covered!

Ronsters · 13/05/2019 17:20

I'm in Leeds too, on way home from work. There are loads.
There were lots in my back garden yesterday.

IndigoSpritz · 13/05/2019 21:52

We need lots of ladybirds and lacewings to scoff them all.

SpoonBlender · 13/05/2019 21:54

None in Bradford today, but loads once outside city limits towards Ilkley.

imnottoofussed · 13/05/2019 22:14

Loads in Stockport the last few days

SallyOMalley · 13/05/2019 22:16

Yep, tons in York. The cycle home was interesting picks them out of teeth .

mrsrhodgilbert · 13/05/2019 22:19

Loads in Leeds yesterday and loads eating my flowers in Harrogate, where are they all coming from?

willdoitinaminute · 13/05/2019 22:22

My bloody cars covered in them ( all dead) I drove up the M1 yesterday morning to SYorks and been driving around Sheffield today. Must be all the white roses!

DullPortraits · 13/05/2019 22:27

I got covered in my walk home from work today!! They drove me crazy as i just could not avoid them!! There was literally thousands!!

EnidButton · 13/05/2019 22:36

My climbing rose was heaving with them. I've never seen so many before. Had to resort to using a spray. Previous years I've just rinsed with soap water and it's been fine. Wonder if it's something to do with the hot summer last year?

TheNoodlesIncident · 13/05/2019 22:45

Fascinating fun fact: Baby female greenfly hatch already impregnated by their father greenfly! (From when the male mated with their mother)

So it's no exaggeration to say they multiply rapidly. Hopefully soon there will be an explosion of predators like ladybirds, lacewings, etc, as PP suggested.

gettingtherequickly · 13/05/2019 22:47

Yep our dog walker turned back out of the fields behind our house and chose to walk down the roads. Awful at lunchtime, better this evening.
Sheffield.

gamerchick · 13/05/2019 22:49

Same sheet, loads of the buggers. More oddly, loads of ladybirds crawling out of the curb last week. I've never seen that before.

Flyingsouthwiththeswallows · 13/05/2019 22:50

Never seen them like this before.

They have destroyed my three new rose bushes in a matter of days. They are totally covered in them and just wilting and dying in front of my eyes.

EnidButton · 13/05/2019 22:51

I've seen loads more ants too and blackfly is already ruining the cherry trees in town. They're taking over!

whatsnewchoochoo · 13/05/2019 23:03

Yep everywhere - how do you get rid of the buggers?

JellyTots2009 · 13/05/2019 23:32

Yep here in the west mids. Noticed them about a week and half ago, keep picking them out my DC hair !

DontCallMeShitley · 14/05/2019 00:02

whatsnewchoochoo buy some ladybird larvae, or lacewings, or adults if you want them to work quickly. Let them free on roses or wherever you see aphids, they will eat them, and mate and produce more ladybirds or lacewings.

I buy ladybird larvae every year, and also have a ladybird hotel.

mouldyhousemouldylife · 14/05/2019 00:28

They covered the handheld signature thing the delivery driver handed me today! Ugh!

gamerchick · 14/05/2019 08:51

You can actually buy ladybirds on Amazon. Well I never Grin

DontCallMeShitley · 14/05/2019 17:47

I get mine directly from the Green Gardener

www.greengardener.co.uk/

Had a ladybird sitting on my shoulder today while I was painting the fence. Happens once a year, only once, I think it is a reminder to get another batch.

isseywithcats · 14/05/2019 18:43

went to Matlock Bath from Halifax on Sunday on the motorbike our helmets look like a greenfly cemetery and all the bikers were saying the same i think the warm weather seems to have brought them out in droves
