Best route Brighton to Plymouth?

So long since I've done this drive - am wondering if the coast road (A35) via Bournemouth is better than cutting up to Salisbury & picking up the A303?

Am going to be traveling on the Friday before the next bank holiday. Happy to leave early.

Salisbury and A303. A35 is always a pig.

Use google maps before you leave to get the best route due to traffic. The Friday before a BH will be awful with the traffic.

But the A303 is usually better.

They are (Always) digging up the road into Bournemouth.

Contra-Flow Nightmare. Avoid.
