Urgent question about Gumtree and PayPal

Hi

I have a wardrobe for sale on gumtree. Someone has messaged me saying that they will pay by PayPal, and will collect the item tomorrow. The “agent trustee” will collect the item tomorrow.

They want my PayPal details, but I stipulated cash on collection.

Are there the same potential PayPal issues with Gumtree that there are with EBay? That the person can pick the item up, pretend to PayPal that they don’t have it, and I would then lose the money?

Okay done a search and there are potential scams, so I have emailed the person to say cash on collection only as I had originally asked (and she ignored).

You're right to say no. I'd be inclined to make a note of their details and let Gumtree know- they're actually excellent on twitter.

They've spaced the "Paypal" word in the text to avoid it being picked up by gumtree too. Definite scam

Yes. And I was almost taken in by it. Have reported the whole thread to Gumtree who will hopefully get why as it didn’t give me a box to explain things in. That then deleted the whole thread and the person is blocked.

Like the way they pretended they had my PayPal details and then asked them at the end of the message. Thieves.
