How should remainers vote in the EU elections

We’re less than 2 weeks away, how is everyone thinking of voting? I’m going with Change UK as I’m sick if all other parties. I genuinely have lost respect for both main parties. But then I was surprised to see change UK really not gathering much support. I also can’t believe Labour are polling so strongly seeing as JC has fudged Brexit to death.

Lib Dem’s have a consistent stance on Europe. Most of change UK people were from labour/tories and would have voted for referendum in 1st place too. It’s annoying that change UK have refused to campaign together with Lib Dem’s/greens/others.

Theworldisfullofgs · 13/05/2019 06:18

Lib dem particularly with the d'hondt system.

Kernowgal · 13/05/2019 07:10

Green for me (south west region). We already have Molly Scott Cato so I'm hopeful.

In a general election I would vote Lib Dems - our current MP is a Tory but he doesn't have a huge share of the vote so it wouldn't take much to knock him off his perch - next biggest share after LD is UKIP who can get to fuck. Labour don't even feature.

Short memories indeed Hmm the Lib Dem's have been consistent in their approach to Brexit since the beginning. They were backed into a corner during the coalition and my feeling is they lessened the impact of many Tory policies but the price extorted from them by the nasty party was fee increases - which no one will ever let them forget. Yet labour and the tories break election promise after promise and no one bats an eyelid....

Reiterating Gina Millar's campaign. I'm voting SNP.

IgnoranceIsStrength · 13/05/2019 07:19

Just to point out again...remainvoter.com is hoping to identify the most popular remain group in your area so if you want your vote to be very pro remain please check them out. I'm just really disappointed in Labour. They could have backed remain by now and started a real swing in politics..instead so much fence sitting

calpop · 13/05/2019 07:20

I'm torn between Change UK and Liberal Democrats. Tactically I think LD would be be best, but, Aimee Challoner and their gender stance puts me off, I certainly wouldnt vote for them in a General Election for that reason, same with the Greens of course. Not sure which way to go. The Toties were knocked out of overall control where in the local elections where I live recenty for the first time in decades so it would probably be best to press home with the LD advantage. My preference is Change UK, but I think they could have been a bit more impressive by now. Dunno.

RedSheep73 · 13/05/2019 07:23

I'd love to vote Green but realistically I think it would have to be LibDem. I wish SNP woulf field candidates in England, I would vote for them - they make more sense than any of the rest!

TanMateix · 13/05/2019 07:23

I voted green at my local elections this month but will be voting LibDem next time, just because they have more chances than the Greens to beat the Brexit Party.

I wish Change UK had agreed to join forces with LibDems.... with all the Remain side split in so many parties we have no chance against Farage.

TanMateix · 13/05/2019 07:25

... and it didn’t matter anyway those EU MPs are not going to be acting for more than a few weeks... this was a people’s referendum that is going to get wasted

megletthesecond · 13/05/2019 07:28

I need to figure this out too.

Ginger1982 · 13/05/2019 07:31

I'm in Scotland and have no clue! I don't want to vote SNP as I don't want independence but we've had no election info through the door at all!

ShatnersWig · 13/05/2019 08:47
  1. If you can't forgive the LibDems for their part in making the referendum happen, then your only choice is SNP if you're in Scotland or Change UK which didn't exist at the time. Although as some of their MPs voted for the referendum as part of their previous parties, how can you trust them either? It's a bit of a false argument.

  2. If you can't forgive the LibDems for getting into bed with the Tories, so be it. But it was pretty clear after they were no longer in coalition that they were able to stop the Tories being as bad as they ended up being when given free rein. I'm afraid coalition politics means compromises and tuition fees were it. A future government could always change that if they wished - have Labour promised they would abolish them? A lot of people will never pay back, or pay back very little of their tuition fees. Was it the best option? Maybe not, but almost a decade on, the political landscape is very different, as is the make up of the party, I'd say it's time to let it go.

The obvious answer is vote for whichever Remain party has the best chance of winning where you are. You don't have to vote the same way in the next general election - and it may well be the case that whoever you do vote for won't be there in a year or two anyway.

longwayoff · 13/05/2019 08:52

Usually vote Green in Euro elections but will vote lib dems this time as it's for Remain and because of the way votes are counted for this election.

DadDadDad · 13/05/2019 09:12

Completely agree, Shatners.

If you hate the LD and vote for them in the Euros, the "worst" case is it creates enough pressure to reverse Brexit and (let's say) 20 LD MEPs get seats in a parliament of 750 for five years (and you can still give LD a kicking in a Westminster election if that's your preference).

Peregrina · 13/05/2019 09:24

I would be very happy to see the LDs come in second place, even if it was behind the Brexcrement party. It would show very clearly that the country is still split, and is not yet in a mood to 'get behind Brexit'.

Peregrina · 13/05/2019 09:25

I can't see the LD's getting 20 seats though! 6 would be a big increase.

Theworldisfullofgs · 13/05/2019 09:38

The polls are looking v positive for lib dems. Behind the Brexit party and labour but only just behind labour.
I wont vote for labour for many reasons. I have I the past but not know.

Lordamighty · 13/05/2019 09:53

Change uk as a tactical vote for me as a remainer. I suspect the Brexit party will win overall though. I think the main two parties are in for a knockout blow from the voters.

DGRossetti · 13/05/2019 09:57

West Mids here, and going LD. Don't feel comfortable with CHUK - they're a tad too unknown for my liking and I'm not 100% sure what they might pull out of the hat if they have success. (I'm still burned by my vote for Labour being associated with a vote for Brexit in 2017).

Besides, I think the LDs need some loving. They've paid a terrible price for the coalition, and it's (some) peoples naive desire to "punish" them which gave us the 2015 Camercunt edition that started all of this.

Other option would be Green ... I have voted Green sometimes in the past, but not with any real conviction.

llamawearingasombrero · 13/05/2019 09:59

Oh gosh. I don't know who I'm voting for . Certainly not may and co. I'm not sure that I'm even voting .

llamawearingasombrero · 13/05/2019 10:02

As a European in Britain with European/ British children it is really concerning how much Britain really does not like us. I understand now how the Irish and Jamaicans felt arriving in Britain in the 60s/70s/80s

MrsPear · 13/05/2019 10:09

I voted to stay in the EU but my viewpoint lost the vote. We shouldn’t therefore be having this vote. We should have left. Does anyone else not think that this vote is a kick in the teeth to democracy?

eurochick · 13/05/2019 10:12

Change UK for me. I'm usually a Tory voter but they no longer represent my views.

flugelhorn81 · 13/05/2019 10:13

Lib Dems have the clearest and most consistent message on Brexit, so they'll get my vote.
